Cotton may not be up for election this year, but we’re ready to recruit his replacement NOW. {NAME} – Tom Cotton certainly turned some heads this week.  In a recent tweet, Cotton issued a direct call for violence against Americans exercising their first amendment rights, urging people that if protesters are blocking traffic, you should: “take matters into your own hands to get them out of the way.”  Despite all appearances to the contrary, Tom Cotton is not a stupid man. He knows exactly what he’s doing.  Ever since 2017, when a white supremacist intentionally drove his vehicle into a crowd of non-violent protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, and killed Heather Heyer, at least 11 states have attempted to pass legislation making it legal for people to intentionally hit protesters with their cars.  Cotton knows this. He made similar calls during the racial justice movement of 2020, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, publishing an Op-Ed in the New York Times saying we should “send in the military” against Black Lives Matter protesters.  Now he’s at it again, claiming protesters need to get “their skin ripped off.”  This is not a dog whistle. This is an air raid siren.  Tom Cotton believes it’s acceptable to visit violence against people he disagrees with – fellow Americans exercising their first amendment rights. It’s despicable, and wholly unacceptable from a United States Senator.  That’s why we’re going to replace him in 2026. I secretly want my U.S. Air Force combat veteran, emergency medicine physician who also graduated from Harvard wife to run against him. But that’s a different email.  Tom Cotton may not be up for election this year, but the infrastructure and groundwork we lay through Vortex right now will put our organization in a position to see he never gets another term. Will you invest in Vortex’s long-term organizing strategy with a recurring contribution today?  [Start a monthly donationÂ]( [Make a one-time donation]( The right to free expression is a bedrock American value, and it has always been a target of men like Tom Cotton.  Throughout our history, our greatest civil rights leaders have faced both social persecution and physical violence – people like John Lewis, who famously nearly lost his life on the Edmund Pettus Bridge at the hands of men who believed what our senator says today.  Tom Cotton does not represent Arkansas. And we will see that he ends his career in the Senate in 2026.  If you know a bold community leader who should take Tom Cotton’s place in the Senate, go ahead and reply to this email and tell us about them now.  [In the meantime, you can help Vortex lay the foundation for Cotton’s defeat in 2026 by flipping ALL FOUR seats representing Arkansas in the U.S. House.
