Alta was born in December 2018. Tragically, Alta lacked oxygen at birth and despite doctors declaring she wouldn't survive more than several hours, she miraculously did. Altaâs parents spent day and night at her bedside. And according to the doctors, as a direct result of this love and care, Alta began gaining strength. There were hopes Alta may come home but complications delayed a special homecoming. When the hospital advised removal all forms of support, Altaâs parents demanded their daughter be allowed a chance at life with private support at home or abroad. Both were viable options however Altaâs parents were summoned to court where they received the worst news possible. A High Court judge ruled recently that life-sustaining treatment should be withdrawn in preference for palliative care in Altaâs best interests. In the judge's opinion, the child is not Jewish as she has not had a chance to practice her religion! Altaâs family want her to be transferred to an Israeli hospital on religious and ethical grounds. The baby has an Israeli passport and therefore we also call upon the Israeli authorities to intervene and save her life. The Right to Appeal the High Court has been postponed until this coming Wednesday 16th June. Huge diplomatic efforts are underway by the Israeli Government to lobby the British Government in support of transferring Alta to Israel. At the same time, efforts are being made by US Congressmen to lobby the British Government in support of transferring Alta to the USA, as the father is an American Citizen.
