Their crime? Sheltering a trans rights activist during a protest at the Capitol. [LGBTQ+ Victory Fund logo]( [STAND WITH MAUREE TURNER, ADD YOUR NAME TODAY!]( Friend, Recently, Oklahoma state Representative Mauree Turner was censured by the Oklahoma legislature and removed from their committee positions. Their crime? Sheltering a trans rights activist during a protest at the Capitol, as the rest of the legislature debated a draconian set of anti-trans restrictions. Bigots in the legislature spun the situation to claim Mauree was "harboring a fugitive," but their lies are clear: they simply wished for another opportunity to bully America's first out non-binary lawmaker. [Today, we're letting Mauree know we're watching the situation and we see through the attacks. We've got their back - add your name TODAY to let Mauree know you're standing with them!]( [STAND WITH MAUREE]( A member of Mauree's party, Rep. Cyndi Munson, called the censure, "absolutely embarrassing," and that the bigots in the legislature were trying to "silence a member who does not think like them, act like them, dress like them, who challenges their positions, especially when they are running legislation to harm people in our community." That's absolutely correct - and it's shameful that non-binary lawmakers like Mauree must deal with this transphobia in office. Since their historic election, Mauree has tirelessly stood up for what's right, ensuring LGBTQ+ people have a strong voice in the legislature. In return, they've received death threats and faced intimidation tactics. It's disgraceful! We want to send Mauree and lawmakers like them a clear message: we see these outrageous moments, and we are with you.
