House, Senate Uncertain • John Fetterman Wins • A New Right Victory [View in your browser]( | [Update your preferences](newsletter=vf) [Vanity Fair Hive logo image]( The Red Wave Never Came: Where the Midterms Stand Now The red wave never came, though Republicans may still narrowly take the House—and the Senate majority, as in 2020, may be determined by a Georgia run-off. Despite polls tightening in recent weeks, Democratic Governors Tony Evers, in Wisconsin, Gretchen Whitmer, in Michigan, and Kathy Hochul, in New York, all won, as Sen. Maggie Hassan held off a Trump-backed challenger in New Hampshire. There were [victories]( for abortion rights in Vermont, California, Michigan, and possibly, Kentucky, which remains too close to call. In closely watched Pennsylvania, John Fetterman and Josh Shapiro were victorious against a couple Trump picks: Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano. “This campaign has always been about fighting for everyone who has ever been knocked down, that got back up,” Fetterman [told]( supporters early Wednesday morning. As expected J.D. Vance won an Ohio Senate seat—“The New Right is officially headed to Washington,” [notes]( Caleb Ecarma—and Ted Budd took North Carolina. Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis cruised to reelection in Florida. Now, all eyes are on votes still being counted in Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Georgia, where Rafael Warnock and Herschel Walker, both currently just below 50 percent, could compete in a run-off next month.
