Trump on Trump • That Hitler-Coded Spot • OpenAI and Scarlett Johansson [View in your browser]( | [Update your preferences](newsletter=vf) [Vanity Fair Hive logo image]( Samuel Alito Is Apparently Above Any and All Accountability Good morning. In case you weren’t aware, there are no real mechanisms to hold Supreme Court justices accountable, and they are therefore essentially free to do what they please. (No, this paragraph isn’t about Clarence Thomas.) Justice Samuel Alito is unlikely to face any repercussions after it was revealed that an upside-down American flag, a symbol of support for Donald Trump’s insurrection, flew outside his home in early 2021, which Alito blamed on his wife. As Eric Lutz [writes](, many would call that a conflict of interest and say that Alito should recuse himself from cases involving Trump, but hey, it’s 2024. It’s bleak out there. What’s another scandal? Elsewhere, Bess Levin [notes]( that Trump, who basically installed the Court that overturned Roe v. Wade, insisted on Truth Social that he’d “never” call for restrictions on birth control—after saying in an interview with Pittsburgh’s KDKA news station that he was “looking” at restricting birth control and would have a policy on that soon. Plus, Chris Murphy has [the latest]( on the former president’s campaign threatening legal action against the filmmakers of The Apprentice, a new film focusing on Trump’s early days in real estate. The project, written by VF special correspondent Gabriel Sherman and directed by Ali Abbasi, recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Sebastian Stan stars as Trump early in his career, Emmy winner Jeremy Strong plays Trump lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn, and Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova [channels]( Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump.
