Trump Hush Money Hearing • NBC’s Mess • The Do-Nothing Congress [View in your browser]( | [Update your preferences](newsletter=vf) [Vanity Fair Hive logo image]( Some Unwelcome News for a Skulking and Winking Donald Trump Good morning from the Hive newsroom. Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial (the one where he allegedly falsified business records to hide a potential sex scandal), which was originally supposed to begin this week, has a new start date: April 15. VF’s Dan Adler [was inside]( the Lower Manhattan courtroom Monday when New York Supreme Court justice Juan Merchan rejected calls from the ex-president’s legal team to further delay the case. “About an hour into the back-and-forth over the novelty and relevance of the new materials, Trump started to fidget in his seat, shifting his weight from one side to the other. During a break, he walked out of the courtroom scowling before turning to wink at the crowd.” Of course, Trump’s hush money case is just one of the many ways the presumptive 2024 Republican nominee is potentially legally screwed. To follow along, here’s a [handy guide]( by Bess Levin. In other news, the furor inside NBC over the hiring of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel is relentless. “Not only was she a hard-core Trump loyalist, she spent the lead-up to the 2020 election helping him plant seeds of distrust in the democratic process and amplified his claims that the contest was marred by fraud,” [writes]( Eric Lutz, after Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski blasted the network’s decision on Monday. Plus, Molly Jong-Fast has [the latest]( on Mike Johnson’s imploding House: “Republicans have let Trump drive the party straight into a ditch.” Thanks for reading.
