My business plateaued and declined in 2021. I tell you why in this email. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  Hi {NAME}, Most times we get tired of seeing other people's annual recaps because it only shows the highlights, which can often make us feel worse. This was me when I was reading the 2021 highlights of some of my peers in the online space who wrote about how much they grew their businesses and how they achieved X milestones. For once, I was on the other side of the social media highlight reel: I did not hit my goals for 2021. In fact, my revenue plateaued mid way through 2021, and eventually it started to decline. I even had some months where I was in the negative. While I didn't grow as I hoped to in 2021, this doesn't mean I'm going to shy away from sharing my failures. While wins are often shared publicly as people wrap up their years, it also feels appropriate to share the losses just as publicly, which is why I recapped my entire 2021 [in this blog post here](. I'm going to keep this email short and sweet, because everything I need to say is in the link I shared above. In the post, I share: - My revenue and expenses of every single month in 2021 (I compare it to 2020 so you can see exactly where my business started declining and going into the negatives for some months.) - Key events that happened each month, including some painful learnings and personal breakthroughs - A summary of my top 5 lessons learned in 2021 - A summary of what I'll be looking forward to in 2022 I’ve never written such a long piece like this before, and frankly I’m not sure if anyone will actually read the whole thing. So if you have the time to actually read the blog post I wrote, please do me a favour and let me know.  A simple IG story share (tag me [@vanessalau.co]( or private message will do. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. With gratitude, Vanessa PS: I’m going to be writing similar pieces like this on a weekly basis to those subscribed to my email list. I had a lot of fun writing my [2021 recap]( and my only regret is that I didn’t capture these moments when my struggles and breakthroughs were actually happening in the moment. So, here’s what I’m planning for my Newsletter moving forward: I will release an email every Monday morning where I candidly share what I’m working on, what’s happening, and advice from my learnings. This newsletter series will officially be called Confessions of a Content Creator to CEO. If after reading my blog post you realize you don't want to get exclusive emails from me that share similar reflections, then at the bottom of this email you can opt-out (it's in the fine text below) Regardless of what you decide, I want to thank you for being a part of this journey, and I look forward to continuing to share my honest thoughts on entrepreneurship. Love, Vanessa. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
