Your gifts make a world of difference for women and girls. February was a month full of sober anniversaries concerning UNFPA’s work to deliver lifesaving care to women and girls around the globe. On February 6th, we marked one year since the first of a string of devastating earthquakes and aftershocks was recorded in Syria and Türkiye. 3 million people had to flee their homes and more than 55,000 were killed. Then over the weekend, February 24th marked two years since the invasion of Ukraine began. Women and girls are still suffering as war continues to exacerbate the risks of violence against women, sexual exploitation, and abuse. And of course, we cannot forget about Gaza — where the unprecedented humanitarian crisis entered its fifth month. 2.2 million people are on the brink of famine, one in six children are acutely malnourished, and the nightmare is only getting worse for women and girls. It is easy to feel jaded and powerless with so much pain in the world. But through it all, thousands of generous supporters - like you - stepped up to make a difference. And what a difference it has made: - UNFPA has supported more than half of the 21,000 childbirths in Gaza since October - Over a third of all births in Ukraine in 2022 were delivered at one of the 51 maternity facilities supported by UNFPA - We distributed more than 60,000 Dignity Kits across Syria and Türkiye so that displaced women and girls could still manage their periods with dignity Your gifts make a difference.
