The clinic's breadth of services is truly impressive, and their holistic approach to care is evident everywhere. Not only do women receive medical check-ups when they come in for prenatal care, but they’re also provided with invaluable nutrition advice to prevent anemia and ensure the health of both them and their babies. And it doesn’t stop there — the clinic takes the extra step to educate her on the signs of violence and offers support, ensuring that survivors are not left to face their traumas alone. The clinic also hosts awareness sessions on critical issues such as domestic violence, child marriage prevention, menstrual health, family planning, economic empowerment, and more. I had the chance to meet a group of girls attending an informational session on periods. Given the cultural constraints that prevent open discussions on this topic, these sessions are a lifeline for these young girls. The knowledge shared by these dedicated UNFPA clinic staff ensures that they can navigate their own bodies and lives with confidence and autonomy. Another standout feature of the clinic is its childcare facility, which allows mothers to focus on their appointments while their children receive general check-ups, hearing tests, and even their necessary vaccinations. I learned that emergency contraceptives, which are essential for reproductive health care and especially in the clinical management of rape, are scarcely available in Jordan. In fact, their primary source of contraceptives come from our UNFPA kits. The limited accessibility of contraception, coupled with the alarming rise in child marriages among Syrians in Jordan – now reaching 79% since the onset of COVID – underscore the urgency and importance of the clinic’s work.
