Women and girls are bearing the brunt of the largest refugee crisis in the world. [USA for UNFPA]( NYT: At Least 750,000 on Brink of Starvation and Death in Sudan, Experts Warn “A devastating civil war is pushing the country toward a full-blown famine.” [RUSH A GIFT]( The worsening crisis in Sudan has reached a tipping point. 750,000 people in Sudan are at risk of starving to death in the coming weeks and 2.5 million people could die of hunger by October. [We are doing everything we can to provide lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care to women and girls in this crisis, including nutrition support for pregnant women, new moms, and newborns, who are among the most at risk. Will you rush an emergency gift today to deliver lifesaving care to Sudan and wherever support is needed most?]( [MAKE AN EMERGENCY GIFT]( Women and girls are bearing the brunt of the largest displacement crisis in the world. On average, Sudanese women have 4 children, who they are now desperately trying to feed, house, and keep safe. Even worse, sexual violence is rampant. Mothers like Nisreen are worried for their safety and the safety of their daughters. Nisreen and her 14-year-old daughter were ambushed by armed men while they were out collecting firewood. “The soldiers attacked me until I collapsed, then they raped my daughter before fleeing,” Nisreen told us. “Some villagers discovered us and rushed us to the nearest health center. When I woke up, I realized I had lost the use of my legs. Medical exams confirmed that my nervous system had been irreversibly damaged. I’m paraplegic.” Nisreen and her daughter received post-rape treatment and mental health services from UNFPA after their attack. They even got a small grant to open a kiosk and rebuild their lives. “I thought it was the end for us, but then we found hope in the most unexpected places,” said Nisreen. “Opening the kiosk was a turning point: It gave us a sense of purpose and the means to support ourselves. We found a way to move forward.” UNFPA has reached more than 600,000 survivors of violence with care in the past year and we’re currently operating 64 safe spaces for women and girls. But as the hunger crisis deepens, much more is needed to meet the growing demands. [Will you rush an emergency gift today and scale up relief efforts in Sudan and wherever care is needed most before it’s too late? Millions of people at risk of hunger and violence are counting on your support.]( [MAKE AN EMERGENCY GIFT]( Thank you for not looking away from this crisis. — USA for UNFPA [usaforunfpa.org]( | info@usaforunfpa.org | [Privacy Policy]( SENT BY USA FOR UNFPA: THE UN SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AGENCY What does UNFPA stand for?
