[1]( [Woman left at the altar by her fiance decided to 'turn the day aroundâ and have a wedding anyway]( There are few things that feel more awful than being stranded at the altar by your spouse-to-be. Thatâs why people are cheering on Kayley Stead, 27, from the U.K. for turning a day of extreme disappointment into a party for her friends, family and most importantly, herself. According to a report in The Metro, on Thursday, September 15, Stead woke up in an Airbnb with her bridemaids, having no idea that her fiance, Kallum Norton, 24, had run off early that morning. The word got to Steadâs bridesmaids at around 7 a.m. the day of the wedding. â[A groomsman] called one of the maids of honor to explain that the groom had âgone.â We were told he had left the caravan they were staying at in Oxwich Bay (the venue) at 12:30 a.m. to visit his family, who were staying in another caravan nearby and hadnât returned. When they woke in the morning, he was not there and his car had gone,â Jordie Cullen wrote on a GoFundMe page. [Read the story](
[2]( [Lizzo plays James Madison's 209-year-old crystal flute on stage in a historically symbolic moment]( Imagine James Madison sitting in the White House during his second term as president. An enslaved Black servant delivers the president his dinner, which he eats by oil lamp as electricity wouldn't be installed until 19 presidents later. The War of 1812 rages. Most newspapers are still weekly, so news spreads slowly. There is no such thing as the internet, television or even radio. Now imagine someone plops a laptop onto President Madison's desk and presses a button. On the screenâwhich is like nothing he has ever seen beforeâhe watches a Black woman perform on a stage in front of thousands of people. Lightsâwhich he's never seenâilluminate and reflect off her sequined bodysuit. She steps up to a microphoneâwhich he's also never seenâand speaks to the 20,000 people in the audience. Then she lifts up something Madison has seen and instantly recognizesâa crystal flute specially made for him for his second inauguration. The woman lifts the flute to her lips and plays. Madison is told this is happening approximately a mile away from where he sits, more than 200 years into the future. Imagine him trying to process any single part of what he's witnessing. As you can imagine, the "Annie, are you okay?" jokes came fast and furious, and they haven't let up much in the three and a half decades since. It's all good. Those jokes gave me a respite from the "Annie get your gun" and "little orphan Annie" ones, and besides, it's a great song. It wasn't Jackson's biggest hit, but it was always my favorite, and not just because it bore my name. The music videoâa nine-minute, dance-heavy mini-movie set in the 1930s gangster eraâmade it even better. But apparently, mentioning "Smooth Criminal" or "Annie, are you okay?" to the younger folks doesn't conjure up the zoot suits and dimly lit speakeasy images it does for me. For them, it brings up images of an alternative rock punk band playing in a ⦠boxing ring? In 2001, a band called Alien Ant Farm did an alternative/punk cover of "Smooth Criminal" that has repeatedly gone viral since then. In fact, it went viral in June 2022 and then again this week, when Lindz McLeod on Twitter asked if anyone would recognize the lyrics, "Annie are you okay, are you okay, Annie?" without looking them up. (Ahem.) Some people, seriously or jokingly, pointed to the Alien Ant Farm cover as the source. [Read the story](
[4]( [Hayden Panettiere proves that doing what's best for your child isn't always what's easy]( Parenting isn't always easy. I don't think there's a single person on this planet that would proclaim it's easy to parent a child and to parent that child well. But there's an additional layer to trying to be a good parent when you're also struggling with addiction. Hayden Panettiere knows that struggle all too well and recently went on Red Table Talk to discuss her life and the difficult decision she had to make when it came to parenting her daughter. Panettiere has a 7-year-old daughter that she shares with her ex-husband Wladimir Klitschko, a world heavyweight boxing champion from Ukraine. When discussing her daughter on Red Table Talk she revealed that she signed over full custody to her ex-husband while she was struggling with her sobriety. While Panettiere feels she had little choice at the time due to how it was presented, she also explained her decision wouldn't have changed because it was best for her daughter at the time. The actor and WWE performer just broke the Guinness World Records for most wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As of July 19, Guinness World Records reports, Cena has granted a whopping 650 wishes. The highest amount any other celebrity granted was 200.
