[ALERT] Endangered Species Hi {NAME} , We are one of the first private facilities in the United States with reticulated giraffes and today have one of the largest herds in the country. In the wild, giraffe populations have decreased by 30% - just in the last 30 years! As one of Africa’s iconic species, Tanganyika is committed to their preservation with more than 60 giraffe births over the life of Tanganyika’s successful breeding program. Clouded Leopards are the smallest of the big cat family and are known to stress easily. Therefore, zoos around the world have difficulty breeding them. Jim Fouts, my father, was determined to change that. He built the 2nd largest collection of clouded leopards in the world and began to breed them. Since the first cub, Tanganyika has increased the worldwide managed population by more than 20%. Cheetahs are the fastest cats in the world. Unfortunately, their population is declining at a fast rate. Due to all our success with other big cat species, Tanganyika decided to build a breeding facility specifically for cheetahs. The breeding process is significantly different from other species and in the short time we have been breeding them, we have had over 40 baby cheetahs born at Tanganyika. Have you ever been to Africa? Tanganyika has preserved the best-endangered animals around the world and brings them to life in a safe and fully humane environment - in one central location (literally, the center of the United States) for animal lovers like you. It is the only place around Wichita where you can have a lemur on your lap, feed a pygmy hippo and Indian rhino, ride a camel, get up close to baby giraffes, and more. In fact, Tanganyika is the only place in the US that does Indian rhino feeding and pygmy hippo feeding on a regular basis. Our experiences allow unique and breathtaking engagements with some of the most scarce animals on the planet! As our mission states, we are constantly looking for new and exciting ways to connect people to the natural world. The endangered animals who make up the diverse environment at Tanganyika are more than just cute, whimsical, and cuddly. They are a vital part of this world’s ecosystem. If they fail to survive so many other natural systems would also fail down to your food source. We believe that if people come visit Tanganyika and form a personal relationship with these amazing animals, who live in their backyards, those same people and others in their circle will gain a deeper appreciation for nature around them and they will be changed by the cultural experience, too. Penguins may not be able to fly through the air, but have you seen them fly through the water? Better yet, have you felt the rush of water as they zoom past you or had them splash water on your face? Tanganyika Wildlife Park is the first and only facility in the world to give visitors the opportunity to gain a whole new appreciation for penguins beyond the fact that they are “cute and cuddly”. People have come from all over the world to participate in this spectacular experience. Before I let you go, I want to introduce you to Dimitri. Dimitri is a mandrill - a primate of the Old World monkey family (that’s why he thinks he’s a great pasta maker, but yuck!) He used to be classified as a baboon but now has his own genus. Dimitri and his family are threatened by hunting for bushmeat, habitat loss, and fragmentation, and are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN's Red List of Endangered Species.
