[t]   [t r u t h o u t] In yet another thinly-veiled attack on press freedom, on Friday multiple prominent news outlets were refused access to a briefing with Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who warned that the White House was going to "aggressively push back" at "false narratives" in the news. Donald Trump berated journalists and their sources alike in his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference on the same day. Of course, this crackdown is selective: It targets media outlets who do not fall in line with the state narrative, or who refuse to publish the names of their anonymous and at-risk sources. Far-right, openly racist media is happily welcomed at the White House. Meanwhile, Truthout is even more loathed by the powers that be than occasionally-critical corporate media like CNN or The New York Times. For that reason we need all the more help from our community of readers who are determined to stay fully aware of what is happening and to build a better future together. Truthout still needs $32,000 to keep our publication running. Will you stand up for a free and independent press by making a donation tonight? Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
