Last year, my colleague Dahr Jamail recieved a text from a friend during Hurricane Harvey. Texting from Houston, his friend wrote, "We are all rescuing each other." Those words have stuck with me ever since. In addition to being a staff member at Truthout, I'm also a full time organizer. My whole life is about getting the truth out, in one way or another, and urging people to advocate for themselves, and each other. It's an exhausting way to live, but there is also a lot more joy and peace to be found in life when we know we're doing all that we can. It helps me get to sleep at night, and knowing that entire communities are out there, fighting the good fight -- that gets me out of bed in the morning. I believe in us, and our efforts, but all know that there are some tragedies in motion that we won't be able to reign in. In my own life, when those moments come, I know I'll be able to turn to my loved ones and tell them, "I did everything I could." I want us to keep saving each other, for as long as it takes, but I also want us to be able to tell our children what we're made of, and that every time evil arose, we fought the violence and lies of plutocracy and fascism with the truth, and backed our hopes with action. Right now, right this minute, I'm asking for your support. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
