[Latinos Born Outside Hospitals Face Scrutiny Over Citizenship](
Miriam Zoila Pérez, Rewire.News: Gwyneth Barbara was born in the United States -- in her parents' Kansas farmhouse, to be exact. In April, Barbara received a letter from the US Passport Agency telling her that because she was born outside of an institution, her birth certificate was not enough to prove citizenship. Her case isn't the only one, and the process of finding supplemental documentation can be time-intensive and costly.
