When I heard that Rudy Giuliani had declared "truth isn't truth" on a Sunday political program, like many of you I felt that I had stepped through the looking glass. However, it is not an entirely errant proposition from an administration that is more reality TV show in its orientation than reflective of reality. The "truth isn't truth" when it is demagoguery masked as fact, or as Kellyanne Conway, counsel to the president, declared "alternative facts." Such reckless views make me all the more thankful for Truthout. It's a news site I can go to find out about the real truth, not what masquerades as it. I have been at Truthout nine years, and I never cease to marvel at the tenacious and fearless reporting of my colleagues. It has not just been a home to me; it has been a touchstone for what is important in fulfilling the promise of a robust and just democracy. At the end of August I will be retiring from full-time work and will miss the camaraderie of this passionate and incisive team. I may return occasionally as a writer, but I will be coming back every single day as a reader. Because I can rely on Truthout to ferret out the truth and not its imitation in the form of propaganda and spin. Truthout's articles and commentary have profound value to me. Rudy Giuliani, Kellyanne Conway and Donald Trump may have different versions of reality to pedal as false imitations of the truth. However, I can count on Truthout to give me the unvarnished news and investigative articles. My heart, commitment to justice and inquiring mind will always belong to Truthout.
