This past year we’ve been unwilling passengers on a hazardous, roller coaster-esque train, running on antiquated, science-averse structures with faulty wiring that seemed ready to derail at any moment and explode into a sociopolitical dumpster fire like the world has never seen. The Trump administration’s shock and awe psychological warfare kept us sidetracked, sidelined and whiplashed, with banned words, curse words, childish words, tweeted words and dangerous words. Meanwhile, just behind the curtain the institutions of our country were being degraded and will take decades to repair -- provided we can win back the chance. More than ever we must maintain our focus and fix our gaze on concrete policy shifts, scientific data, and the people who are generating real solutions and fostering pragmatic thinking. We cannot let ourselves become a part of the chaos. [With your support]( those of us here at Truthout are committed to tempering whatever chaos is in store for 2018 with solid, critical but constructive, cutting but non-sensational, news stories and analysis to help stop this train before it completely wrecks us all. And if one thing is certain, it's that the president is terrified of real journalism -- and he should be -- because there is real, paradigm-shifting power when the "empire writes back." When you donate to Truthout, you help us hold space for writers from all backgrounds to step up, write back, fight back, and hold this dangerous new power in check. Will you give right now to help us raise the crucial voices of resistance in these harrowing times? [Donate Now]( [Click here to make a donation]( (Truthout is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
