During the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, Colonel “Chesty” Puller, an iconic Marine twice decorated with the Medal of Honor, found his Marines surrounded by Chinese troops and outnumbered 35 to 1. Col Puller radioed in to give a situation report and calmly stated, "We've been looking for the enemy for several days now. We've finally found him. We’re surrounded. That simplifies our problem of getting to these people and killing them.” While that may sound like bravado for those unfamiliar with Chesty Puller, it was far from it. Puller and his Marines fought to the sea with ferocity and purpose, leading an Army Major General to state for history, "The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of Marines.
