Most people don't internalize this, but you are absolutely capable of MUCH more than you think. The shocking, disheartening, tragic reality is that we miss out because we stick to the path we are on (here's my [30 minute keynote video]( on this), and also because we simply cannot predict the future. BUT, there IS a proven method that allows you to predict multiple paths, enhancing your likelihood of winning... ... in a 2 minute read, I will use this week's weekly trend report to explain how you can profit from this understanding, and more specifically, how we have used this reality to help NASA, Google, HP, and Tribune plot their future. In short, yes, you cannot predict the future (COVID taught us that), but you CAN develop scenarios, and you will win if something CLOSE to one of those scenarios comes true. There is a specific method to do this, fine tuned during the cold war. CONSIDER THIS: In the 1970s, Pierre Wack was planning for the future at Royal Dutch Shell. For nearly three decades, the price of oil was the equivalent of $20. If you wanna keep your job, the best prediction of next year's price is... $20! But Pierre, a student of Scenario Planning (usually used in war) noted that MAYBE, just MAYBE, the Middle Eastern countries would create a cartel. And if they did, prices would skyrocket. His strategy to get BUY-IN from his leadership team was to ASSUME the expected scenario of $20, but prepare for a potential cartel. This is one of the powerful advantages of scenario planning. You get buy in by acknowledging the "Expected Scenario", even if you don't think it is true. In Pierre's case, when OPEC was formed, prices increased 5x to $100, and only Shell was prepared. In the longer version of this story, he did remarkable feat twice. Shell rose from #7 in the world to #2 overall and #1 most-profitable. It teaches us that you are not preparing for what WILL happen, you are preparing for the potential of what COULD BE.
