In the meantime, a second director picked up 500 shares for just over $50,000 on December 27. » [FULL STORY]( [Unusual Options Activity: Cameco (CCJ)]( Shares of uranium mining giant Cameco (CCJ) have had a stellar year thanks to a strong commodity market and rising uranium prices. One trader sees that trend continuing in the first half of this year. That’s based on the June $32 calls. With 146 days until expiration, 6,041 contracts traded compared to a prior open interest of 179, for a 34-fold increase in volume. The buyer of the calls paid $0.85 to make the trade. » [FULL STORY]( IN OTHER NEWS • [Home Prices Rose 15.8 Percent in 2021]( Home sales dropped in December, even further than analyst expectations. 6.18 million homes were sold, down 4.6 percent from numbers in November. In the meantime, prices rose 15.8 percent in 2021, which allowed homeowners to offset inflation rising at a multi-decade high. • [Lumber Prices Rebound]( Soaring lumber prices were a huge story last year until prices started moving back down. Recently, however, they’ve been trending back up. This time, the housing market isn’t fully responsible, as a shipping boom has led to rising demand for cardboard boxes. • [Champagne Sales Hit Record High]( According to trade association data, champagne sales hit a record 180 million bottles. That’s a 38 percent increase over 2020, and sales topped $6.2 billion. The increased sales are a sign of increased in-person events, as well as rising stock markets and other measures of wealth growing over the past year. • [Mercedes-Benz Inks Deal with Autonomous Driving Tech Firm]( German automaker Mercedes-Benz announced a partnership that would allow it to buy up to 1.5 million shares of Luminar (LAZR), a company working on lidar technology for self-driving vehicles. The move comes after Luminar inked a deal with Volvo to be the first carmaker to use the startup firm’s tech. • [Plaid Acquires Cognito to Expand Account Services]( Fintech unicorn Plaid is acquiring Cognito at around $250 million in a combination of cash and stock. Plaid can use Cognito’s services to move beyond its core business of connecting consumer bank accounts to financial applications, with improved verification services.
