The Dow and broader U.S. stock market diverged on Monday, as losses in healthcare and utilities partially offset gains in the energy and financials sectors.  Wall Street's major indices diverged at the close, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DIA) gaining 64.35 points, or 0.2%, to 31,522.75.  The broad S&P 500 Index (SPY) of large-cap stocks fell 0.1% to finish at 3,932.59. Eight of 11 primary sectors finished in negative territory, with utilities, real estate and healthcare leading the declines.  Meanwhile, the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index (QQQ) declined 0.3% to close at 14,047.50.    A measure of implied volatility known as the CBOE VIX (VXX) rose on Monday and was back to trading above the historical average. The so-called "investor fear index" reached an intraday high of 22.46 on a scale of 1-100, where 20 represents the historical average. It would eventually settle up 7.1% at 21.39.  In commodity markets, U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed 64 cents, or 1.1%, to $60.11 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent, the international futures benchmark, edged up 8 cents, or 0.1%, to $63.38 a barrel.  On the precious metals side, gold for April delivery plunged $29.30, or 1.6%, to $1,793.90 a troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver futures edged down 2 cents, or 0.1%, to $27.31 a barrel.  The Final Word: U.S. stocks continue to trade near record territory on federal stimulus optimism. Earlier this month, the House approved a new budget deal that includes President Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus deal.  We'll talk soon, Trading Gods    Advertisement  Best Retirement Stocks to Buy in 2021 Worried about Reddit traders and other volatility in the stock market?
