The Dow and broader U.S. stock market rallied sharply on Friday, as investors turned their attention to the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden next week.  All of Wall Street's major indices finished in positive territory, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DIA) rose 359.17 points, or 1.3%, to 27,174.61.  The broad S&P 500 Index (SPY) of large-cap stocks advanced 1.6% to finish at 3,298.47. Ten of 11 primary sectors reported gains, with information technology leading the pack. Industrials, utilities and consumer discretionary shares also reported big gains.  Surging tech stocks propelled the Nasdaq Composite Index (QQQ) sharply higher. The Nasdaq finished up 2.3% at 10,913.56.    A measure of implied volatility known as the CBOE VIX (VXX) pulled back sharply on Friday, erasing earlier gains. The so-called "investor fear index" peaked at 30.43, before falling all the way down to 26.71. VIX would eventually settle down 7.7% at 26.33 on a scale of 1-100 where 20 represents the historical average.  In economic data, U.S. durable goods orders rose much less than expected in August, raising concerns about the economic recovery.  Duable goods orders rose 0.4% against expectations of a 1.2% rise, the Department of Commerce reported Friday.
