The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4%, the S&P 500 Index added 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite Index finished 0.5% higher. For the week, the Dow rose 3.2%, the S&P 500 advanced 4% and the Nasdaq climbed 4.6%.   The CBOE VIX Volatility Index, commonly known as the VIX, declined 3.3% on Thursday to settle at 37.68 on a scale of 1-100 where 20 represents the historic average. For the week, the so-called “fear index” fell 20.3%. The total caseload has reached 2.8 million, with Florida, California and Texas emerging as major hotspots. In economic data, U.S. nonfarm payrolls rose by 4.8 million in June, as unemployment fell to 11.1%. Average hourly earnings, which are a proxy for wage inflation, declined 1.2% on month but were up 5% annually. Initial jobless claims for the week ended June 27 rose by 1.427 million, official data showed. Meanwhile, ISM’s manufacturing PMI improved to 52.6 in June.
