The U.S. stock market drifted sideways on Wednesday, as investors shifted their focus to fourth-quarter earnings.  All of Wall Street's major indices were trading in positive territory for most of the day before pulling back later in the session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DIA) edged down 9.22 points to settle at 29,186.82.  The large-cap S&P 500 Index (SPY) closed flat at 3,321.81. Gains were primarily concentrated in information technology stocks. Utilities shares also outperformed their benchmark. On the opposite side of the spectrum, energy stocks tumbled around 1%. Materials and industrials shares also fell sharply.  Meanwhile, the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index (QQQ) rallied 0.1% to end at 9,383.77.  A measure of 30-day volatility known as the CBOE VIX (VXX) hovered within a narrow range on Wednesday, which is a a reflection of calm on Wall Street. The so-called "investor fear index" settled down 1.1% at 12.71 on a scale of 1-100 where 20 represents the historic average.  In economic data, the Chicago Fed National Activity Index flipped negative in December with a reading of -0.35. The index recorded 0.41 the month before.  On Thursday, the Kansas City Fed will release its January manufacturing report. The Department of Labor will also report on initial jobless claims for the week ended Jan. 18.  The Final Word: Stocks continue to trade near all-time highs, prompting calls for a major pullback. The S&P 500 Index hasn't fallen by more than 1% in over 70 trading days. According to some strategists, this makes the index a prime candidate for reversal.  We'll talk soon,  Dan  Dan The Trading God     *****Advertisement*****   ID=174048;size=600x250;setID=420790;extraData=507;uid={EMAIL}January 22, 2020;lat={EMAIL};click=1  *****Advertisement*****  [Ridgeline Media Group LLC BBB Business Review]( Disclaimer: The content included herein is for educational and informational purposes only, and readers agree to TradingGods.net [Disclaimer,]( [Terms of Use,]( [Privacy Policy]( before accessing or using this or any other publication by TradingGods.net or Ridgeline Media Group, LLC. Ridgeline Media Group, LLC does not endorse any products that may be advertised in this email.  If you no longer wish to receive our emails, click the link below: [Unsubscribe](  Ridgeline Media Group LLC 70 SW Century Drive Suite 100-148 Bend, Oregon 97702 United States Media Group, LLC/html
