The CBOE VIX (NYSEARCA:VXX) continued higher on Friday, as disappointing jobs numbers weighed on equity markets. The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Volatility Index, commonly known as the “fear index,” reached a high of 18.33 on a scale of 1-100 where 20 represents the historic average. It would later give up almost all of its gains, settling at 16.67. VIX has seen a sharp upswing in momentum this week, which is an ominous sign for stocks. [ The CBOE VIX (NYSEARCA:VXX) rebounded sharply this week, as signs of economic stagnation undermined the two-month relief rally in stocks. VIX rose 3.3% on Friday to settle at 16.05 on a scale of 1-100 where 20 represents the historic average. On Thursday, the VIX settled at its highest level since late January.
