And investors have taken notice in a big way. Look at Canopy Growth (TWMJF), for example to see how real the boom has been. Since October 2017, the stock popped from $10 to more than $23 thanks to California, and news that Constellation Brands just took a 10% stake in that stock. Another big catalyst is Canada, which could legalize it recreationally in July 2018. No wonder related stocks and ETFs have been racing higher. I’m going to start the new year by making a prediction. 2018 will offer far more opportunities than 2017. But more than just making a prediction, I would like to lay out the reasons for my thoughts. I am basing most of my predictions less on what takes place in Corporate Boardrooms across the US or even the world. But most of the reasons I feel we will have extra volatility (and hence extra opportunity) is directly related to what comes from Washington DC. And to some extent what goes to Washington DC. The first thing I want to point out may be the last thing to occur. 2018 is a Federal Election year. One third of the U.S. Senate and all 435 seats in the United States Congress will be decided by the vote of the American population on the second Tuesday of November (11 plus months from now).
