Just to give you a preview of what you’d learn during the presentation – Now, venture capital is consistently compared to the sport of baseball. It is well-known that returns from a successful venture capital investment can be absurd, such as Jason Calacanis’s investment in Uber turned $25,000 into $100 million in just eight years. Therefore, people refer to VCs as swinging for home runs. They don’t look for singles or doubles. They want to smack the ball out of the ballpark. And of course, it comes with strikeouts in some investments. So, VCs get compared to Babe Ruth. The legendary baseball player set multiple batting records, including hitting 714 career home runs. But he also struck out proficiently. However, the comparison may be unfair. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, pointed out that a “grand slam” in baseball will deliver four runs to the scoreboard. That’s the limit. But things are different in business. The potential return on business investment is theoretically infinite. In other words, you can score as many as 1,000 runs from a “home run” investment – rather than limiting it to four runs. - “The difference between baseball and business, however, is that baseball has a truncated outcome distribution. “When you swing, no matter how well you connect with the ball, the most runs you can get is four. In business, every once in a while, when you step up to the plate, you can score 1,000 runs,” said Bezos. So, the major difference between venture capitalists and the stock market is this: Venture capitalists are willing to risk more because a single “winner” can cover as many as 100 losers. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
