Henry Ford was the famous inventor who used the principle of assembly line to produce cars that were cheap enough for the mass to own cars. And there was electrified power. Thomas Edison’s development of the electricity led to an unprecedented amount of applications across the industries. The Third Revolution was the digital revolution. The development of computers, semiconductors, and the internet led to an enormous amount of positive disruptions to society. We now can communicate instantly. I can send you a message within seconds when it used to take days for letters to arrive. Surely, the digital revolution was a game changer. Now, the Fourth Revolution is happening right now. It is not limited to mobile internet, better, cheaper and smaller sensors, supercomputers, machine learning and artificial intelligence. But here’s the thing about this revolution… Klaus Schwab, the author of The Fourth Industrial Revolution, said this revolution is far different from others. He outlined three reasons why: - Velocity: We have discussed the speed of ChatGPT to reach mass adoption. The growth is at an exponential rate rather than linear. As a result, new technologies are invented on top of other technologies at a rapid pace. - Breadth and depth: The breadth and depth of its impact is massive. It will reach many different industries. It will create paradigm shifts in the economy, business, society, and individually. In short… Exponential growth is going to be faster than ever.
