They would say, âMy goal is to earn $300 a day from trading options.â What would be likely to happen? These traders will take profits as soon as they hit the monetary goal for the day. What if a trade goes hot and hit $300 profits on the day? A trader is almost certain to exit the trade and say, âI am good for the day.â But hereâs the problem: You cannot force the markets to give what you desire for the day. The markets donât care if you want to earn $300 or $1,000 a day. However, it will certainly give you good and bad days. And you want to reap rewards on good days as much as possible. Why? You are going to have losing trades, so you need winners to tide you over those bad days. In the table below, you can see how Scenario 3 of taking profits every time you hit a 10% profit would lead to a disaster if you had just two bad trades. However, if you allow your winners to run, your scenarios would be far better. Hereâs the bottom line: Let your winners run while managing your risks. If you avoid the mindset of trying to extract X amount of money from the market, you will avoid putting your capital at risk in low-probability or high-risk situations.
