For example… you could tell bees to go to a certain place, and a group of them will follow you. Believe it or not, it has already been accomplished with artificial intelligence. The AI tech has exploded because of the development of cheap sensors and cameras. Scientists would place miniature microphones (called digital bioacoustics) all over the world from the Arctic to the Amazon. They even put these microphones on the backs of whales or turtles. And they will record these animals 24/7 to analyze their behaviors and verbal communication. All of this would create a mountain of data. Scientists would use AI to detect patterns in nonhuman communication by matching certain voices with certain behaviors. It would be almost impossible with human analysts. Take honeybees as an example. Tim Landgraf, a researcher at Freie Universität Berlin, studied honeybee’s communication system. It is based on vibrational and positional. In other words, bees “speak” to each other through body movements and sounds. With deep-learning algorithms, it can track individual bees, and they are able to find how an individual communicates with others through signals. For example, they have “hush” or “stop signals, a whooping “danger” signal. They've got piping [signals related to swarming] and begging and shaking signals. So, Landfraf created a new robot called RoboBee. It would enter a hive and emit commands that the honeybees would obey. They could tell honeybees to stop, and they’ll obey. Landfraf even once successfully signaled the location of a nectar source and the group of bees flew to that new location. You can see the photo of RoboBee below: Isn’t it remarkable?
