[Torn - Online RPG game - Free text based games]() Volume 24 / AUTUMN 2018 Elimination, Token Shop Upgrades & Trick or Treat Hey {NAME}, As Summer's lifeless corpse twitches for one final time having been riddled with so many bullets, Autumn steps up to take its place, and with it comes a whole heap of interesting developments. But first, let's look back on what happened over the summer in Torn City. [Autumn in Torn] In this edition #1 [Elimination 2018](#section1) #2 [Dog Tags 2018](#section2) #3 [Token shop upgrades](#section3) #4 [Logistics Company](#section4) #5 [Trick or Treat](#section5) #6 [Subscribers hit 5,000](#section6) #7 [DDoS Attacks](#section7) #8 [Notable patch notes](#section8) #9 [iOS Release](#section9) #10 [Community Manager](#section10) #11 [This quarter's freebie](#section11) #12 [In other news](#section12) [] Elimination 2018 This year's Elimination was the most popular community event in Torn's history, with a full complement of 12,000 players taking part for the first time ever. At peak times as many as 300 hits were being made per minute, so it's a good job we spread out the Elimination periods throughout the day! Under the new rules, teams were awarded tickets for successful attacks by their members, and the team with the lowest tickets lost a life every hour. When a team's 25 lives were up, they were eliminated from the competition, and this new format meant that the drama and excitement often took place at various times throughout the day. This wasn't the only change we made though, as twelve teams were made available in 2018 - and this is just the tip of the iceberg. A total of thirty three teams have been developed for future Eliminations, and you can find the full list of potential teams below, albeit heavily pixelated, because we're mean like that. [Elimination] In the end it was Team Cupcake who emerged victorious, beating the Snowflakes and Dongs into second and third place respectively. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who made hits, formed strategies and crafted clandestine alliances during Elimination 2018; you made this event a spectacular success, and we hope to see you again next year. [] Dog Tags 2018 The next event in the Torn calendar is Dog Tags, which is scheduled to begin on the 5th of November. For those of you who are new to Torn City, this competition is a solo tournament where individuals fight to collect as many dog tags as possible. Sadly, there are no actual dogs involved. #bringbackdongs Every player will be assigned a tag regardless of whether they are participating or not, and the points value of each tag depends on the player's level. At the end of the event, the player with the highest dog tag points total wins the competition. Kniv has won the past three Dog Tag competitions in a row, but he's reportedly announced that he won't be participating in this year's event, opening up the field for a new champion to emerge. First, second and third placed players will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze Dog Tags respectively, and those who finish 4th to 25th will take home a special Metal Dog Tag item. But there are plenty of tokens and awards on offer outside of the top 25 too. Players whose score puts them in the top 10% of all players will receive 10 Tokens to use at the Token Shop. If you finish in the top 11-20% you'll receive 9 tokens, with the top 21-30% getting 8 tokens and so on and so forth. And once the competition is over, you can drag your tired self over to the recently upgraded token shop, which has been given a lovely little makeover so it feels all pretty and stuff. []Token shop upgrades For too long the people of Torn City have been forced to live as bald, hairless freaks, with not a single inch of keratin to be found on their heads, necks or nether regions. All that will now change - well maybe not the last part, we are PG-13 - thanks to the introduction of forty two brand new hairstyles available for purchase via the token shop. [Hair Styles] Once unlocked, these hairstyles will show up via the attacking screen, and because we're not EA we won't charge you a single real penny for the privilege. All you have to do is be good at stuff and / or things, with tokens awarded throughout the year during our ever-expanding list of competitions. And unlike the soup at Olive Garden, this feature consists of more than just hair. Through the token shop you'll also be able to unlock fifty new backdrops which you can choose to appear on your profile background. [Backdrops] These features are expected to become available at some point during the Dog Tags event, giving you all the more reason to beat your fellow Torn citizens to death - if you ever needed it. []Logistics Company Several months ago we announced that a new company called the Logistics Company would soon be released. Unfortunately, the logistics of the logistics company proved a logistical nightmare, so we had to delay it for logistical reasons. You will be pleased to know that we have now finalised the specials for this company. It will be available for purchase 'soon'. Keep an eye on the newspaper in the coming weeks for the details, but for the time being, let us say that one special in particular will be of great interest to other business owners. []Trick or Treat Would you risk trick or treating in Torn City? Let's see how many of you dare to knock on each other's doors and beg for free stuff, when our brand new Trick or Treat event starts at midday on October 30th. [trick or treat] To join in the fun all you'll need to do is pick yourself up a Halloween Basket from Sally's Sweet Shop. These items are limited to one per person and will cost you a nominal fee, but once you're armed with a plastic pumpkin, you'll be ready to pester your fellow citizens for as many treats as possible. All participants start with an allocation of ten treats, and then it's up to you to pilfer more from others before the event ends at noon on the 1st of November. You may also want to dress up and take a few props, because this may increase the number of treats you receive - but we're not telling you what to wear, because where's the fun in that? The number of treats you collect will determine how many prizes you receive at the end. Depending on your treat score, you'll be given any number of delicious Halloween goodies including Bloody Eyeballs, Pixie Sticks and Pumpkin Brew. And those of you who do particularly well may be in for a very special treat indeed, with a brand new Halloween themed item on offer for the best trick or treaters in Torn City. Further information on this event will be released via the newspaper later this week. Oh, and don't forget to visit the Community Events forum to enter our many Halloween themed competitions. If you've got a pet you want to dress, baking skills to show off or an especially dank Halloween meme idea, head on over to [Community Events](forums&f=62&b=0&a=0) now for the chance to win big! []Subscribers hit 5,000 Earlier this year we announced that Torn had recorded its highest active population for nearly five years, when a total of 22,965 individual players hit our streets on the 1st of June 2018. This trend has continued over the summer months, and we began to regularly top 24,000 users per day in early October. And on the 6th of September we hit yet another milestone, when Torn's subscribers numbered 5,000 for the first time ever. Torn is now doing so well that we might need to build a new Donator graph soon, which would be a shame, as this might delay the release of Beards. [Subscribers] Thank you so much for your continued support. With your help, we promise to work hard to bring you new events, features and facial hairstyles to repay your generosity. []DDoS Attacks Over the past few years Torn has been targeted repeatedly by unknown assailants whose use of Distributed Denial of Service attacks has resulted in several major outages. High profile online games are often subjected to this kind of attention, and unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that such incidents won't occur in future. However, in recent months the perpetrators of some of these attacks have been identified. Law enforcement agencies were contacted, and their investigations led to the arrest of those responsible. Said attackers are now making their way through the criminal justice system, and we would like to remind you that DDoS attacks are illegal. Torn will report each and every instance to the relevant authorities. To mitigate against future attacks, we have drastically improved our protective measures to ensure that threats will have little to no effect on your access to our services. []Notable patch notes We pluck out some of the most interesting patch notes over the last three months out of the hundreds of updates and fixes. - Opened up the first stage of Poker 2.0's closed beta We opened up the new Poker engine to the top 250 Torn Poker players. With their feedback, progress is moving quickly and we hope to enter public beta soon. - Released Gym rebuild The gym has been totally rebuilt from scratch and released with several changes to make life easier. Change is difficult for many players, but there's been an overwhelmingly positive response. Also finally gets rid of the dreaded 'RFC Check' error. - Released Authenticator 2FA method You can now add an authenticator to Torn's 2FA which is better and quicker than SMS 2FA. Please ensure you have it enabled to protect your account! - Released Community Manager job listing page We opened up a community manager job position and received a total of 100 applications. - Released Company Multihunter The new Company Multihunter specifically targets multiple accounts being used within companies. Gaining an unfair advantage through the use of multiple accounts is really lame, this system speeds up the process of catching and removing them. - Released Bookies 2.0 We released the new Bookies system which features hundreds of daily matches across a variety of sports. We're in the process of adding more sports and special bets on matches. - Added Demoralize weapon bonus for all Gold AK-47s The first of many special weapon bonuses, Storage for Handbag, Burn for Flamethrower and Poison for Blowgun followed with many more to come. These weapon-specific bonuses are the required prequel for our legendary weapons system. - Changed Networth awards requirements to 'simple recorded networth days' rather than 'in a row' A relief to many, you no longer have to hold a networth value as a continuous streak that can be broken to earn the awards. - Added 'Most recent API requests' log on preferences page (API Key) A feature heavily requested, you can now view the most recent API requests made from your API key, allowing you to see if it's being used maliciously. - Released Personal Stats page rebuild Rebuilt from the ground up, the new personal stats page features significant improvements and replaces the old code meaning it'll be much easier to update and add new stats in the future. []iOS Release Work on the iOS build of the Torn app is going well. It's now in closed beta while we find and fix the remaining issues - we will likely have an open beta within the next couple of months with a full release scheduled for some time in January. [iOS] []Community Manager We're very happy to announce we have finally chosen a full-time Community Manager out of the 100 candidates who applied. Of their many responsibilities, they will be managing the staff team, making the important case-by-case decisions and acting as a last resort point-of-contact for those in need. We look forward to making the announcement in a couple of months once training is completed and they begin work.
