HAHAHAHA. I bet everyone of us here has experienced this at some point in our lives. From school essays to published written content, be it for personal use or for clientwork… May moments talaga na name-mental block tayo. And because you’re here for copywriting… Nagkaka-writer’s block tayo. When you think about it, parang validation pa siya in a way, ‘no? Like, "Wow. Writer na talaga ako. Nagkaka-writer’s block ako." I hate to break it to you, {NAME}, pero hindi ganun ‘yun! HAHA! More often than not, writer’s block stems from lack of research or enough knowledge of the target audience. But there are also cases where you just don’t have clarity over what you want to talk about. Either you want to talk about a lot of things or you’re no longer sure what your audience wants to get from you… Pwede rin naman both. That’s one of the reasons why I asked you to pick which among these you identify with the most right now: [a) New to freelancing / Exploring copywriting but still not sure]( [b) Interested in adding copywriting as a new skill / Learning and specializing in copywriting]( [c) Experienced copywriter / Business owner learning copywriting]( If you’ve picked yours last night, thank you. You don’t have to pick again. But if you haven’t yet, click mo lang which best descrbes your current situation. Isa lang ang piliin, please. 😅 Anyway, back to writer’s block and lack of clarity. One way to help you get rid of or, at least, lessen this is by making sure you have the following: 1. Research As copywriters, we mostly do research on the market, product, and competitors. The last thing you want to do is base everything you write on assumption. Wala kang mapapala kung puro "akala" ang basis mo. And if you want to be a copywriter but you don’t like or do fact-checking, My advice is, train yourself to make a habit of it. I’m pretty sure there are tasks at work (or school if you’re a student) that you don’t like doing but are obliged to because it’s part of your job or role. But if you’re set on not doing research at all… Do yourself a favor and just don’t take on any career that requires research to get work done. 2. Outline or a list of ideas you want to write This way, apart from not forgetting the ideas you came up with, You can also easily narrow the list down, rank the items based on relevancy and priority, and disregard those that aren’t in line with the rest. Another advantage of this is it’ll make your content connect with the previous and succeeding ideas seamlessly. Doing this helps you organize your thoughts even before you start writing. 3. Goal of each published content Pwede ka naman magsulat ng trip mo lang talaga. But if you’re posting or sending content to share a valuable message or to eventually grow your business… May purpose dapat lahat ng isinusulat mo. Once you have clarity on these 3, you can say goodbye to writer’s block. This also applies to any writing role out ther. But of course, these are only about the things you can control to achieve clarity on what you want to write. I’m not, in anyway, discounting variables we can’t control like the state of mind of the person, how they’re feeling at the time, etc. I might’ve missed some things, but in general, that’s what you’d want to prepare to fight writer’s block before it even appears. What are your thoughts on this, {NAME}? Rooting for you, Mark Darwin Balaswit
