This morning I called a special session because Wisconsinites deserve to have a voice when it comes

This morning I called a special session because Wisconsinites deserve to have a voice when it comes to the future of abortion policy in our state. {NAME}, On the ceiling of the Governor’s Conference Room in the Capitol is a phrase I’ve often repeated over the last three years: “The will of the people is the law of the land.” Well, right now, the will of the people isn’t the law of the land when it comes to abortion rights in Wisconsin — but it damn well should be. That’s why I’m calling a special session to create a pathway to repeal the 1849-era criminal abortion ban, by putting it on the ballot in a statewide referendum. {NAME}, I will always stand up for the rights and freedoms of all Wisconsinites to access the reproductive healthcare they need—but if Tim Michels wins, the GOP will pass all sorts of anti-abortion legislation. (Trust me, I’ve already vetoed nine of them.) [I am neck and neck with my Republican opponent, Tim Michels, and I need your help to grow our lead. But Legislative Republicans have left us no other choice. If they aren’t going to uphold the will of the people, then the people deserve the right to take a stand at the ballot box. At the end of the day, Wisconsinites — and women in particular — were not only stripped of their reproductive rights, but they currently don’t even have a way to enact the necessary change to restore their freedom without permission from the Legislature. That’s just wrong, and it’s time for us to change that. Which is why I need your help.
