On Monday, stocks soared at the announcement that Pfizer’s third round of Covid-19 vaccine trials was 90% effective in keeping patients safe from coronavirus. While this announcement doesn’t come with any cumulative data or peer-reviewed journals, the announcement has sparked a lot of optimism around the country. However, analysts have cautioned that we have been in a similar position before and that we should wait for Pfizer to elaborate on this announcement through data and analysis. Pfizer, and their German partner, BioNTech, are still in their third trial phase and by the third week of November, they hope to file for an emergency use authorization to distribute the vaccine, which can be done when half of the patients in their study have been observed for any safety issues for at least two months following their second dose. Still, this doesn’t stop the stock market from reacting to the news with optimism and with the holidays coming up, stocks futures are poised to look up.
