Now's the time to join our Community Of synagogue and state In Israel, religion isn't just an option

Now's the time to join our Community Of synagogue and state In Israel, religion isn't just an optional activity or way of life that one can adopt or abandon at will. Here, religion determines what we get to eat and how much it costs; where our children go to school; where we reside - and even whom we can marry. Religion can make or break governments and international alliances. As the Religion and Diaspora affairs correspondent at the Times of Israel, I report on how this reality is shaped, from the complicated bureaucracies of the Chief Rabbinate to the inner circles of strategy makers at the Foreign Ministry and in the highest echelons of government. We follow the money trail flowing from and through a plethora of religious charities. And we examine how religion in Israel affects and shapes relations with Jewish communities abroad. We also approach the story through individual stories of Israelis whose lives are impacted, enriched and complicated by the country's tapestry of faiths. We need your support, through membership in The Times of Israel Community, to help us and our millions of readers make sense of the fabric of what Israel and the Jewish diaspora are all about. Help us accurately tell this story to the world.
