After 12, the vitamin D begins to thin and it becomes closer to something like vitamin H, but don’t hold me to that (I’m not a scientist). I watched as people went in and out of shops, some carrying unthinkably priced jars of bone broth, others sipping on coffees and staring into the void waiting for it to take effect, and others still, flailing their arms during a brisk, theatrical pre-work run. Sometimes when I see people running, I want to start running next to them and chatting, making small talk and getting to know each other. Or I could start running alongside someone on a bicycle, and begin to ask them about what got them interested in biking, and whether they always wear a helmet. I’m not completely confident that strangers would be amenable to this, but I suppose it’s worth a try. It’s a new year, after all. Today’s stories are destined to enchant, delight, and enrich, even the most rigid, winter-frosted heart and mind. We have everything from tips on where to uphill ski to a plant-based eating ethic called reducetarianism, to a 28-day cruise of the Arctic Circle, to a swanky and welcoming dispensary in Chicago, all the way to some special tips on budget airline travel. And if you like stories like that last one, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter devoted to travel tips, Next Flight Out. If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to lean out my window to see if there are any window washers who want to chat. What happened to the window washers!? [Ned Riseley, Senior Copywriter]( [ [( travel [] [When Downhill Just Isn’t Enough: It’s Time to Try Uphill Skiing]( You people are real gluttons for punishment, I’ll tell you that much. Uphill skiing has apparently been around for years and years, so I guess I’m behind the times. The fact that it’s time-tested still doesn’t make me want to do it, but I’m a very specific person with specific needs. All I can picture is me trying so hard to ascend before inevitably gliding down the slope backwards, screaming for help from the heavens. This isn't about me, though. It’s about everything you need to know about uphill skiing; where to do it, why to do it, what you’ll need. I’ll give it this: it’s a great workout for your glutes. [] [It’s all uphill from here]( [( [( food & drink [] [Reducetarianism: You Can Have a Little Meat, as a Treat]( For those of you who are looking to take a new approach to your relationship with meat and food in the new year, here’s an in-depth look at the new plant-based eating ethic, reducetarianism. It’s basically a less fundamentalist relationship with veganism and vegetarianism, meaning you can have a lil meat sometimes if you want without guilt or shame. What a nice way to prioritize responsible plant-based eating habits and also take the pressure off. It’s decided: I’m a reducetarian. They talked to us about their intentions to change perceptions about cannabis and the people who enjoy it, as well as their high aesthetic standards as business owners. This is an elegant dispensary that recalls the 1920s and is reaching out to its community in inspiring ways. Buying cannabis at Ivy Hall is an experience, not just a transaction.
