I’m sitting in the lobby of a fancy hotel drinking fennel tea and slowly eating a giant Beyond burger, waiting for something life-changing to happen and channeling the power of intention by staring longingly at people’s nice luggage. Sometimes you need to do that, you know. And don’t ask me why because I don’t know everything. Maybe it’s because The White Lotus just ended and exciting new hotels have really been popping up in the Thrillist news cycle, but I figured if I was going to manifest some exciting new developments in my life, there might be a wellspring of positive energy here in this giant lobby. Well, actually, some tourists are now being very short with the concierge, so I’d say the energy has gotten a bit compromised. Anywho! Today’s stories are fit for a beautiful Friday. Things to do in Mazatlán, Mexico, salted maple pie, a hotel in Lake Placid that has Japanese and Scandinavian influences, a giant castle for sale just outside NYC, and most importantly: a gift guide for coffee snobs—I mean, lovers. Have a stupendous weekend and, as always, be sure to do lots of things I wouldn’t do! [-Ned Riseley, Senior Copywriter]( [ [( travel [] [Mazatlán Is a Special Sliver of Coastal Mexico]( Shhh, we’ve got a travel destination that not a lot of people think of and is totally unspoiled by tourism. It’s a 20-mile stretch of beach called Mazatlán. Maybe you’ve heard of it, maybe you haven’t, but here’s the definitive guide to the “Pacific Pearl,” from flying tips to beach recommendations to day trips to hotels to meals. We recommend the hot dogs (they’re wrapped in bacon), splurging on a swanky hotel that has all the beauty and none of the throngs of Cancun, and cliff jumping when appropriate. [] [Explore]( [( [( Food & drink [] [A Salted Maple Slice from Sister Pie]( What’s better than pancakes with maple syrup? Well, I guess a lot of things, and it depends on what you’re into, but I have to say that this salted maple pie from Lisa Ludwinski, the owner of Sister Pie bakery in Detroit and author of a new cookbook with the same name, gives pancakes a run for their money. After working at Momofuku’s Milk Bar and Four & Twenty Blackbirds, Ludwinski set off on her own pieventure and developed this delicious pie. Try her recipe, and you could even make your own maple syrup if you’re feeling especially ambitious (can you imagine?) [] [Slice of life]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( travel [] [Bluebird Lake Placid Blends Japanese and Scandinavian Design to Perfection]( What a beautiful hotel in Lake Placid this is! Unfortunately, I’m still haunted by The White Lotus, so I cannot see images of a luxury hotel without imagining complex psychodramas and a possible murder, but no matter your associations at the moment, this Japanese and Scandinavian inspired alpine lodge in the Adirondacks is a sight for sore eyes. The Bluebird Lake Placid is simply grand, and is perfect for a winter getaway, or a summer excursion. Getting to tell you guys about someone’s giant castle in Westchester is one of the great joys. This one, in Irvington, is actually relatively modest as far as castles go, with just five bedrooms, only one pool. It’s called the Villa Keen, and Shirley Jones (the mom from The Partridge Family) lived there once. What a perfect way to escape from New York City and pretend you have royal blood.
