Hopefully, your holiday travel isn’t too stressful. I would hate to think of you reading this while lying on your stomach on the floor of the airport mainlining a stale donut and googling “How to have boundaries with a family member who believes that UFOs are controlling the government,” or that you’re reading this in the car, hour three of sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on a stretch of highway that has no rest stops for 100 miles. Even if you are in stressful transit, remember to think something calming and a little trite like, “Enjoy the journey” before flipping off the guy who just honked at you from the breakdown lane. I take that back; I would never advocate road rage, at least not officially. How amazing that the holiday that’s all about gratefulness is also so stressful to coordinate. Have a snifter of brandy when you get a chance and toast to the chaos of it all! Let’s all go around and say what we’re thankful for. I’ll go first: I’m thankful for comprehensive lists of events and experiences to get in the winter spirit, a recipe for Xi’an Famous Foods’ Daily Bread, a list of the most popular pet names of 2022, an opportunity to take a boozy train ride through the Scottish highlands, and the coziest tea advent calendars on the market. What are you thankful for? Best of luck in your travels or in your staying put, and just know that tomorrow’s whole vibe is just “eat and drink to your heart’s content.” What a relief. Happy Thanksgiving! [-Ned Riseley, Senior Copywriter]( [ [( travel [] [From the Beer Spa to the Grand Menorah Lighting to the Meteor Shower: All Our Favorite Wintery Events]( Wintery activities encompass so many different things, whether it’s pampering ourselves, getting a little competitive in the cold, or marveling at the wonders of nature. Here are all of our favorite upcoming winter events coming up all over the place, from the Enchanted Trail near Lake Michigan to a Caribbean holiday festival to an art festival to a meteor shower that will connect you to the cosmos. Just because it’s getting dark at 4:30 doesn’t mean you can’t light a candle and get moving, or just get some inspiration for some cold weather activities. [] [‘Tis the season]( [( [( Food & drink [] [Let’s Get This Bread: Xi’an Famous Foods Daily Bread]( If you’re a gluten apologist like me, you’ll join me in bellowing, “Bread is life!” and I know you’ll be eager to read this story about one of the hottest items on the Xi’an Famous Foods menu: the Daily Bread. It’s grilled on the outside, soft and delightful on the inside, and the best part is, we’ve gotten our hands on the recipe. I think this could be a nice way to heal from the memory of making sourdough during the pandemic and try something new to herald a new era, don’t you? [] [Carb-positive]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( entertainment [] [‘Calzone’ Is Rising: The Top Pet Names of 2022]( If I had a pet (I don’t), I would call it “Pet,” just to keep things simple, but sadly that name did not make this list of all the most popular pet names of 2022, according to Rover. In one of last week’s newsletters, I was telling you why you should be eating hotpot, and this week, I’m here to let you know that “Hotpot” has risen in popularity as a pet name. And some people have even started naming their dog Pfizer. Is your furry friend’s name on the list? Ned didn’t make the cat names, sadly. Maybe next year. They’re some of the most majestic landscapes around and they look even prettier when you’ve sampled a few fine whiskies at various distilleries. This guide includes a lot of thoughts on how best to go about seeing the countryside, hiking a bit, trying some good whisky in the process, and feeling like you’ve time traveled. Thank me later!
