These are what late autumn nights in New York are all about: a star from television singing a song from a musical, then a meatloaf at the bar next to someone in their 80s who’s staying up past your bedtime, or a large pasta for 17 that you thought was just for one from a family-style Italian restaurant, or an unthinkably expensive novelty martini at a bar whose vibe is “neon glass concierge dentist office pop-up where you can get so much steak (for a price) and pretend Carrie Bradshaw is real.” As I’ve probably said before, I take a great thrill from visiting the bustling streets and precarious wonders of midtown Manhattan, and it did not disappoint last night. I even saw a woman who was playing Minnie Mouse in Times Square take off her Minnie Mouse head and take a puff from a vape, in the rain, which was a profound pleasure. To celebrate the wonders of Thursday, I’ve assembled some incredible stories for you all today.
