Are you feeling fatigued by the seasonal change, like I am? Are you excited to get back out there and start enjoying the myriad events that have returned to our lives? I have been hard at work reminding myself to go out and experience life, after years of conditioning myself to think, “Well, maybe it is nicer after all to just roast some sweet potatoes and watch a movie made in 1997 on my couch.” And don’t get me wrong, it can be. But there’s no denying that public life is back, and as another great ancient poet once said, “I want to be where the people are.” It’s a bit topsy-turvy out there—social anxiety is high, nothing is the same, etc.—but I want to combat the tides of virtually-induced FOMO and really experience life, you know? Even if that means roasting sweet potatoes and sitting on my couch when I need a recharge. I’ll roast sweet potatoes with joie de vivre! Today’s stories will hopefully help you feel up to saying “Yes!” to life. Maybe you’ll find a ghost tour near you, or make a Sri Lankan roast pumpkin curry for some close friends, or ponder the fact that 60% of American voters believe cannabis should be legalized, or book a virtual mindfulness experience through Airbnb. Or maybe you’ll head to Costco, a.k.a. Heaven on Earth, for some cozy autumnal items. I hope I’ve excited you about the possibilities of the season. Have a wonderful weekend! [-Ned Riseley, Senior Copywriter]( [ [( travel [] [Haunted Dolls, Colonial Secrets, and Paranormal Activity: The Best Ghost Tours]( When I say, “I want to be where the people are,” I don’t just mean living people. I also mean the bustling and buzzy community known as “the dead.” Step fully into October on one of these ghost tours sprinkled all over the country. They each have their own regional qualities, from the historic and the witchy in Boston to the wild and western in an old silver mine in Nevada. There are different kinds of ghosts everywhere, and even if you don’t believe in them (I can’t imagine why!), you’re certain to have fun connecting with history. Plus, who knows, maybe these tours will turn you into a believer. [] [👻]( [( [( food & drink [] [Try a Recipe for Roast Pumpkin Curry and Other Diasporic Sri Lankan Recipes]( If you are curious about Sri Lankan food and its history, you’ll definitely love Cynthia Shanmugalingam’s new cookbook, Rambutan. She spoke with us about her process of compiling the recipes and how her personal experience as a first generation immigrant and the political complexities of Sri Lanka have informed her approach. And if you want to sample what to expect from the cookbook, she shared a delicious recipe for Roast Pumpkin Curry. [] [Check it out]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( Cannabis [] [Did You Know 60% of Americans Want to Legalize Weed?]( America can often feel like a nation divided these days, but one thing that has majority agreement is… weed. According to a recent survey, only 27% of voters oppose the decriminalization of cannabis, and that doesn’t come as much of a surprise. I’m sure even anecdotally you can attest that a wide variety of people you know enjoy getting a little high now and again. Learn more about the movement to decriminalize and the effects that decriminalization could bring, not only to the random person looking to get high and watch Fantasia in slow motion, but on people incarcerated for cannabis-related offenses. Believe it or not, you don’t have to leave your home to experience the joys of Airbnb experiences. You could just sign up for a virtual mindfulness class offered through the site. We scoured the list of options and are sharing our favorites. You could dance along with Kenyan musician, Johnson, as he takes you on a lesson about traditional Kenyan music, dancing, and affirmations. You could participate in a guided meditation with a Scottish sheep farmer that includes sheep. All of these sound deeply life-affirming, fun, and relaxing. And right as I typed that, a giant truck outside my bedroom window honked its horn so loudly. It must be a sign.
