I’m jet lagged and I don’t know how to act here. Whenever I’m in Los Angeles, I feel like I’m a B-list celebrity’s harried junior publicist, brimming with anxiety and chasing my next cold brew. I would be a terrible publicist, but this character allows me to let go, put on sunglasses, and have some kind of frame for this strange desert planet. I think I need to tap into a new kind of archetype if I’m going to do this city right, though. Maybe it’s time for “Film Noir Assistant Prop Manager” or “Celebrity Who Has Given Up” or “Vegan Vintage Edwardian Bell Sleeve Fashion Influencer” or “Trust Fund Conspiracy Theory Cowboy” or “Rob Kardashian Watching Licorice Pizza on Amazon Prime and Turning it Off After a Half an Hour.” It’s important to have a character for wherever you go. Let’s get to today’s stories, before I really lose the plot. Today, we have an opportunity to sleep on a sailboat on a car-free French island (oo la la!), a chat with Chef Ji Hye Kim about her recipes and her approach to the Korean festival Chuseok (sign me up), new air taxis from United Airlines (air taxis?!), a list of the best pizza restaurants in the world (The Lower East SIde and Caserta, Italy are tied for first!), and finally, the items you are most likely to forget to pack (according to flight attendants)! [-Ned Riseley, Senior Copywriter]( [ [( travel [] [No Cars, No Problem: A Southern French Paradise]( This week, the French New Wave director Jean-Luc Godard died, and coincidentally enough, we have an article for you about a region of France that featured prominently in one of his most famous films, Pierrot le Fou. “Les îles d’Or,” a.k.a. “The Golden Isles” are a handful of beautiful islands that are more likely to play host to local sailors than party monsters, and that’s what makes them so special. There’s something unspoiled about these islands in the south of France, where bicycles replace cars, eucalyptus trees blow in the breeze, rosé all day is a way of life, and sleeping onboard a boat is just as possible as checking into a quaint seaside hotel. [] [Oui s’il vous plaît]( [( [( food & drink [] [Miss Kim Knows How to Celebrate Chuseok]( Chef Ji Hye Kim is the owner of the Ann Arbor, Michigan restaurant Miss Kim, and you might say she’s a bit of an expert on the Korean Mid-Autumn Harvest Festival, Chuseok. She talked to us all about the history of the celebration, how she manages to uphold its legacy in Ann Arbor, and she even shared her recipe for hobak jeon, or squash fritters. Learn more about this bountiful food festival and try the fritters recipe this weekend. [] [Learn more]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( travel [] [Introducing… Electric Air Taxis from United Airlines?!]( You read that right. United Airlines has invested in a startup that manufactures electric-powered air taxis. The hope is that these smaller, more sustainable vehicles, which basically look like helicopters, will take some pressure off congested air-travel hubs like New York and Chicago. Now, instead of making smalltalk with a yellow cab driver, you will be able to spend $100 to get off a plane and into an air taxi, where you can make smalltalk with a pilot. I’m very curious to see how this develops… [] [Fly away]( [//groupninemedia.createsend.com/campaigns/content/edit/DE0CA41E849921082540EF23F30FEDED?origin=CampaignCreationChecklist#]( *720x300 Ad Banner [( food & drink [] [These 50 Restaurants Were Just Named the World's Best Pizzerias]( A new list from Italian brand-sponsored guide 50 Top Pizza has done a definitive ranking of the best pies in the world. How generous of an Italian guide to give kudos to Una Pizza Napoletana on the Lower East Side. This really makes me want to go on a world pizza tour… maybe in a hot air balloon, if possible. See all the places that make this list. [] [And the best slice goes to…]( [( [( shopping [] [Did You Forget Something? The Items People Forget to Pack]( We spoke to some well-informed flight attendants about the travel items that people are most likely to forget to pack. I’m sorry to say that passports and IDs made the list, which is devastating to think about. To read more about the things you are most likely to leave behind and plan ahead for your next flight, check out this article. Funny they didn’t include the items I am most likely to leave behind: my copy of Ulysses that I told myself I would read one day, my vibrating ab toning belt, and a jar of cocktail onions (just in case).
