If you’re venturing out, triple-check the opening status, entry requirements, and safety protocols for both your destination and home city upon your return. Be safe out there. [] It’s hot! At least where I am. Hope you’re staying cool—in all ways. “Cool” is subjective of course, but if you’re skateboarding back from the tattoo parlor with an obscure record in your sleeve while spritzing yourself with a misting fan and popping open a can of agua fresca, I’d say you’re on your way. The weather gods apparently read my newsletter from yesterday and got miffed that I was acting like August was already over, so now they’re scorching us all. My bad. Today’s headlines will feel like a ribbon of cold Fiji water cascading down from above. That is to say, they’re refreshing. Beaches, Trader Joe’s, Indiana Dunes National Park, meal kits, and a Ferris wheel… in Times Square?! I’m off to go design a garment that has an air conditioning unit inside it. Yes, I know, I’m a genius. Bye! -[Ned Riseley, Newsletter Contributor]( [ [( travel [] [The Underrated American Beaches You Need to Hit Before Summer’s Over]( We love to hit the beach! Yesterday we told you all about our favorite beach towns, but what about the beaches themselves? Moonlight Beach in Cali has spectacular cliffs and some sweet places to skateboard. Bear Island in North Carolina is the perfect place to kayak or admire some maritime forests. Block Island is one of the best places to surf in the Northeast. So slather on some SPF 167 and bring a book you’ll never even take out of the bag. It’s beach time! [] [Beachy keen]( [( [( food & drink [] [Circling Back on Trader Joe’s Treats]( That Trader Joe always knows what we need, doesn’t he? From cold brew ice cream that ensures you won’t go to bed before 3 am to ube mochi that tastes even better when you eat two at a time to spicy mango lemonade… TJ’s has some delicious treats you’re definitely gonna wanna do some research on before you head to the store. [] [What’s new]( [( [( travel [] [The Michigan-Indiana Border Is an Untamed Nature Oasis]( Bet you don’t think of the Michigan-Indiana border as home to some of the most beautiful flora and fauna in the country, but if you go to Indiana Dunes National Park (the artist formerly known as Indiana Dunes State Park), you’ll see everything that this part of the world has to offer, from adorable places to stay to amazing hiking, delicious food, and sandy beaches. [] [Get ye to Michigan!]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( shopping [] [Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Meal Kits, but Were Afraid to Ask]( In my experience, meal kits are really great. They make you feel like you’ve expertly constructed a meal with an array of complementary items, when in fact you’ve just been guided through a step-by-step process with pre-proportioned ingredients. But it’s NOT cheating! You can learn a lot about cooking with these things! I haven’t, but you theoretically could. Here are all our favorite meal kits and some other things to consider about having someone else set the menu. [] [Bon appetit!]( [( *720x300 Ad Banner [( news [] [The Times Square Ferris Wheel We Don’t Need, but Deserve]( Times Square is a great place to see an adult in a Minnie Mouse costume pull off her own mouse head to have a cigarette, a great place to go to the Olive Garden, and a great place to wander around yelling, “Where the hell is Mandy Patinkin?!” It’s also, as of yesterday, a great place to ride a big Ferris wheel. That’s right, there’s a big Ferris wheel in Times Square. [] [Learn more]( [( [( Lab9 [] [Take our Reader Survey!]( The dog days of Summer are here. We’d love to hear from you on what your latest shopping habits have looked like. What you buy, how you buy it, and what you think shopping will look like in the next few months. Our partners at Lab9 have a new survey for you, which will take about 20 minutes to complete. If you have time, [please take a moment to fill it out](. Thank you and happy Summer!
