I’m not making that up. I love the sentiment, but what in the hell does that mean, and who invented that, and why? Okay, I did a little digging (i.e. clicked one link) and learned that this “holiday” was invented by a skincare company in 2015 “to recognize the people who are at the forefront of making life beautiful.” Alright, so where is my check? I make life beautiful every time I do a dish. I think I’ve really been pulling more than my weight around here, and I would like some recognition for that. But maybe that’s not what National Making Life Beautiful Day is all about. Incidentally, it is also National Corn on the Cob Day and National German Chocolate Cake Day. It’s also National More Thrillist Day, and to celebrate, I’m bringing you all kinds of magnificent stories about stuff like group-friendly Airbnbs in the nation’s most wonderful beach towns, campfire cocktails, tips for renting a car during what is likely to be the most rent-a-car-summer of our lives, the best restaurants in the Hamptons, and finally, ways to score free weed if you’re vaccinated (I laughed out loud typing that). I’m off to go make life beautiful. Not sure how yet, but I think it might involve not showering until the sun is setting, eating a burrito, and reading an article about the benefits of meditating and then never meditating ever. Have a great weekend! [-Ned Riseley, Newsletter Contributor]( [ [( travel [] [Grab Your Friends and Book an Airbnb!]( Head to the Hamptons, or Naples, Florida, or Redondo Beach, California, with some of your nearest and dearest. I know that so often in movies, groups of friends going on vacation together turns into either a sour web of romantic deceit or a murder mystery, but that doesn’t happen in real life! Actually, I think it’s gonna be reaaaaallly nice to book a stay at one of these places. Sit on the deck in Malibu, mix a cocktail and hop in a pool floatie in Dania Beach… the world is your oyster. [] [Home away from home]( [( [( food & drink [] [Make These Campfire Cocktails Perfect for the Great Outdoors]( No, not a real sweater… this is a drink devised by Emily Vikre that will taste perfect on a camping trip. There are a couple other drinks recipes for you to enjoy, and just some general tips about how to make your camping experience that much more gourmet. Camping doesn’t have to just be about s’mores and Miller High Lifes (even though those are really good options too); it can be about the finer things, and a delicious drink. [] [Yummm]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( travel [] [Don’t Get Fleeced by the Rental Car Companies]( Demand for rental cars is UP. People wanna hit the road. But Thrillist wants you to stay smart about the best ways to go about it. You don’t wanna be the victim of price gouging. But you still need wheels! Here’s what you should know. [] [Tips for trips!]( [( [( travel [] [The Best Restaurants in the Hamptons]( I’ve never been invited to the Hamptons. Hint hint nudge. If anyone wants to invite me, I’m not very available this summer, but maybe we could talk about it. Most of what I know about the Hamptons is what the inside of each of the Real Housewives’ Hamptons houses look like. Well, now I know more… because I know the best places to grab a bite! From Manna at Lobster Inn to Mostrador Marram to Sag Pizza. [] [Take me to Montauk]( [( *720x300 Ad Banner [( news [] [Vaxxed? Here, Have a Joint]( In Washington State, if you’ve been vaccinated, you could qualify for some high-quality cannabis. This is definitely the funniest incentive I’ve heard for getting people to get vaccinated, but for all I know, it’s a really good idea! People love weed, especially in Washington. Hell, I might go get a third dose in Olympia just to score some reefer. [] [Hell yeah]( [( [( shopping [] [Everything You Need to Pull off a Proper Indoor BBQ, According to Grillmasters]( This summer is fortunately looking a lot brighter than last year's, and that means a lot more BBQs with friends and family who we haven't seen for quite some time. But if you live in a city, chances are your cramped apartment building doesn’t have an outdoor patio or grill. Or maybe you do have a sliver of outdoor space via your fire escape, but don’t you dare make a fire on the thing you’re supposed to use to get out if your food goes up in flames. There’s no need.
