[] It’s another wild and wonderful day to read the Thrillist newsletter. Can you believe it’s pretty much summer? I feel like I just climbed out of a dryer that was set to “Permanent Press for a Year and a Half” and now everyone is saying, “Time to get back to normal!” I keep yelling, “Isn’t someone going to apologize for leaving me in the dryer?” but it’s all for naught. Okay, it’s not that bad, but I’m shell-shocked, refreshed, renewed, unfolded, and wrinkle-free, that is for sure. I can already smell the hot August New York garbage from here. You know what else I can smell? Headlines, and lots of them. Today we have travel tips, mushroom-coffee beverages, queer-owned LA businesses, the top-rated beach in America, and abandoned houses in Japan that could be yours for a very low price. See you in Japan! I am sitting in a hot car waiting desperately for street cleaning to be over so I can go in and take a shower, and I wish the same for you. Please take a shower! It’s almost the weekend. All my love to you and your family, [-Ned Riseley, Newsletter Contributor]( [ [( travel [] [How to Plan a Trip Again, According to Experts]( I just went on a plane for the first time since last January, and it was both completely wild and completely innocuous. It was like riding a bike, only it was a plane, and as I mentioned yesterday, I recently fell off a bike and had to go to urgent care, so that metaphor isn’t super helpful to me at the moment. I’ll let the Thrillist experts tell you what you need to know if you’re planning on traveling anytime soon. Bon voyage and please, please, please be careful if you happen to get on a bike. You probably have plenty of both these days, and that’s all you need to turn any vegetable into a pickle. Maybe you’re looking for ways to transform familiar ingredients into the strong flavors created by lactic acid fermentation and vinegar-brined pickles. These age-old methods of preservation may feel intimidating to the uninitiated — but fear not! These two super-simple pickling methods create versatile condiments that will level-up your ho-hum home-cooked meals.
