Without these rituals, I fear that this vague and slightly almost moment in human history—when about 12% of Americans have been fully vaccinated, the birds are singing but the flowers are nowhere to be seen, and one of the most popular shows on Netflix is a show called Marriage or Mortgage, in which a realtor and a wedding planner in Nashville battle it out to convince a couple to choose either their dream wedding or a home—would be enough to unravel even the most stalwart calendar-keeper. The grey of this intermediate non-season, the atmospheric remnants of the Ides of March (... aka ennui), and the endless stream of vaccine selfies (not moralizing about the vaccine by any means, just sick of the selfies) is wearing on my spirit. The limp hope that something will change soon—but when, and how?—is draining us as much as it is keeping us afloat. Not to mention the grief of this moment, which is often too overwhelming to think about directly. Which is why it’s important to remind yourself, things don’t have to be normal in the way that you want them to be yet. Instead of pining for something that can’t happen but you know will, you should definitely keep up the rituals that make you feel some kind of at-home level. If you need to listen to a podcast for two hours to pretend that there’s a voice in your head besides your own, have at it. If you’re just now getting around to making your own sourdough, it’s not too late. And if you need to take more than one bath a day, who am I to stop you? An important part of any daily ritual is the Thrillist newsletter. Today’s stories include an article about some exceptional Airbnbs, a website for getting the best Asian groceries delivered to your home, an episode of the Thrillist Explorers podcast featuring none other than Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, a whimsical edible brand called Astral Edibles, and a shots bar at the Seattle-Tacoma Airport. Ground yourself in some magnificent Thrillist stories, today and every day. I am going to walk to the water in DUMBO and stare into the water until I have a poetic thought. Have a great weekend! [-Ned Riseley, Newsletter Contributor]( [ [( travel [] [10 Excellent Airbnbs for a Slightly More Adult Spring Break]( Remember Spring Breakers, the Harmony Korine movie in which Selena Gomez keeps calling her grandma at a payphone and James Franco has cornrows? Well, this article is all about how to elevate your adult “Spring Break” experience to avoid anything remotely resembling that movie. Thrillist has assembled a list of some irresistible Airbnbs that you and friends could visit for an unforgettable weekend of mature fun with a dash of youthful folly. Most of these Airbnbs have pools… some are in Florida, others in Nevada… They will all make you and your friends feel like A-listers after a D-list year. [] [Time for fun!]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( food [] [Umamicart Is Reimagining the Way We Buy Asian Groceries]( Umamicart is an online platform started by Andrea Xu that helps shoppers get high-quality Asian produce and cooking supplies delivered directly to their homes. It’s a three-part, six-hour documentary that looks at his biography and his writing to try to piece together the life and work of a literary icon. Wil Fulton talks to Burns and Novick about the series on this episode of the podcast. [] [Listen in]( [( *720x300 Ad Banner [( cannabis [] [Remember When Edibles Were Fun?]( The last time I checked, they were still fun! But that’s not really what this is about. Astral Edibles wants to make edibles even more fun. Their key: WHIMSY. Riley Parker and Kevin Collins want to break down some of the stereotypes around weed and have built a brand that reminds us of the more cosmic dimensions of weed culture, with their star-shaped edibles and their philosophy that just because cannabis culture has become more normalized and mainstream, it doesn’t mean that cannabis companies have to sacrifice the playfulness of their branding. [] [Let’s have fun like we used to!]( [( [( news [] [Please Have a Tequila Shot Before Boarding the Aircraft]( We’ve all been there: You have time to kill at the airport, so you want to have a drink, but you don’t have enough time to sip. Well, thank God, the Seattle-Tacoma Airport has introduced a shots bar where you can throw one back just in time for boarding. You’ll be sleeping like a baby before takeoff. Plus, with COVID, anxiety about travel is at an all-time high, so maybe it’s best to get a little boozed up before you have to sit next to someone with their flimsy cloth mask resting under their nose and no hand sanitizer in sight on a non-stop to New York.
