Iâm still in first gear. Also, I had two martinis (red alert!) last night at an outdoor dining situation that had upward of 30 heat lamps, which was disorienting to say the least. My friend had taken me around the corner to show me how ridiculous the setup was (too many heat lamps) and before we could say no the host was ushering us into the toastiest corner in the history of outdoor dining. I pulled the ultimate power move and asked if we could switch tables because I was TOO HOT at outdoor dining. And it was below 30 degrees out. Seriously, they kept shoveling more and more elegant coal pellets into the elegant fire pyramids that were EVERYWHERE, and I thought my legs were gonna burn off. At a certain point, you need to say, âWe have enough heat lamps.â People were taking off their jackets and their hats, they were sweating⦠we want to be toasty, but we donât want to feel like weâre drinking elegant cocktails in hell. The beet salad was really something though⦠such fennel⦠such grapefruit⦠It made me feel like eating might be just a matter of gathering different kinds of plants and then sprinkling them with lemon and fine salts⦠I lived a life of luxury last night, but I canât let it go to my head. You know what I will let go to my head? (Hereâs one of my infamous pivots.) The Thrillist newsletter! These headlines are the elegant beet salads of the mind⦠so refreshing⦠filling yet nourishing⦠Topics include: an underwater national park, the latest Thrillist travel experience, Thrillist Caravan, gin cocktails, space photography, and an Irish iced coffee. As the bon vivant Austin Powers would say, smashing, baby!!!! I can feel the coffee animating my body and I feel ready to attack the day with a fervor. Did Emily Dickinson drink coffee? Off to Google. Good luck! [-Ned Riseley, Newsletter Contributor]( [ [( travel [] [This National Park Near Miami Is All About Whatâs Under the Water]( While I love a normal national park, with the hiking and the animals and the natural splendor, I am markedly intrigued by this article about Biscayne National Park in South Florida, which boasts shipwrecks, a haunting lighthouse on the island of Boca Chita, and that kind of faded, melodramatic beauty so specific to Florida. The mysterious and dare I say creepy beauty of this national park really strikes my fancy. You can camp, learn the regionâs storied history, swim with the sharks, try avocado wine, or search for mermaids. For what is beauty without something a little tawdry thrown in for good measure? What is a crystal ocean without a shark? What is an ocean village if it has not been abandoned? What is a ship⦠without a wreck... [] [Explore Biscayne!]( [(
