Maybe itâs something about the pandemic, or the internet or something, but I think weâve all developed more of a tendency to imagine both that no one will ever know our pain and also that our experience is universal. Call it pandemic solipsism, call it February, call it simply, âagita.â Because Iâm so painfully self-aware, Iâll try not to fall into that trap and Iâll speak only for myself when I say that this time of year, no matter what I do, my face always feels like itâs asleep and no amount of pasta will ever feel like itâs enough. I can only imagine that some of you are living your best life⦠dutifully wearing your masks to Equinox⦠joining wine-of-the-month clubs⦠taking a social media cleanse to focus more on your Tantric yoga practice, and Iâm proud of you, genuinely. But for those of you who feel like youâve turned into a stuffed ottoman with rickets, letâs acknowledge that, and remember that tomorrow is a new day. To make today a little more interesting, check out some of the out-and-out treats that Thrillist has cooked up for you. From news about the Perseverance Rover thatâs landing on Mars today⦠to an investigation of the psychic vortex (thatâs psychic NOT polar) in Arizona that has some pretty major ~*vibes*~... an article about the âBlack Stripâ in Las Vegas⦠a new podcast episode⦠and a new lo-cal Baileys Irish Cream! Just thinking about a vortex, a Mars landing, and a lo-cal Baileys Irish Cream has restored my faith in the future. I was beginning to think that my daily walk between Prospect Park and the Gowanus Canal was all that was left of the outside world. Off to draw up a blueprint of my future apartment on Mars. Iâm thinking Dutch Colonial, but with a modern twist. Remember, weâll always have Mars, [-Ned Riseley, Newsletter Contributor]( [ [( backyard observatory [] ['7 Minutes of Terror': How the Perseverance Rover Will Land on Mars Today]( Itâs an exciting day. The car-sized rover, Perseverance, is landing on Mars, after its seven-month trip. Its goal is to do some investigating of ancient life on the planet. Making the arrival all the more momentous is the fact that once it gets there, it has to endure âseven minutes of terrorâ before it gets from the atmosphere to the ground. âSeven minutes of terrorâ is what I call the second half of Lynyrd Skynyrdâs âFree Bird,â but I think this is going to be a little different. Whatâs your idea of âseven minutes of terrorâ? Sound off in the comments! [] [Take Me to Your Leader]( [(

Itâs also a place with VORTEXES, which are basically areas where the energy is really intense. Apparently, a psychic channeler named Page Bryant determined the vortexâs locations in 1980. Whether youâre visiting Cathedral Rock or the Chapel of the Holy Cross, or getting a sensual massage from someone named âRoofâ who owns a lot of African masks, Sedona is a place with potent and powerful energies. I know it sounds like Iâm kidding, but I do believe in this stuff, and Iâm excited to go to the mesas and listen to the call of the wild ASAP. I love vortexes and you can too. [] [Far Out]( [( [( travel [] [The Little-Known Black History of West Las Vegas and the âBlack Stripâ]( Coincidentally, the last time I went to Sedona, I followed it up with a roadtrip to Sin City, which Iâm going to go out on a limb and say doesnât have any vortexes of any kind. Itâs just pure amoral blank space, energetically. There's magic there, but itâs the kind of magic that leads to people drinking Big Gulps for seven hours in front of a slot machine or paying $30 for three slices of stale Sbarro pizza in a windowless food court. I wish I had known about some of the more interesting history of the city when Iâd gone, but better late than never! Iâm excited to read this article about the glamorous âBlack Stripâ of Las Vegas, now known as the Historic Westside. From wonderful restaurants to the West Las Vegas Arts Center, the area is rich with history and culture, and locals only want to keep expanding the areaâs legacy.
