Cooks, servers, and bartenders have all faced a grizzly 2020, but so have the people who get up on stages large and small. The effects of ongoing lockdowns and restrictions are rippling throughout the drag community as in-person shows, many of which are held in small, densely-packed bars, are all but canceled for the foreseeable future. Drag performers are legendarily multi-talented: experts in makeup, costuming, dance, lipsynching, and a healthy handful are equally talented behind the bar as they are on the stage. Gorgeous comedy queen [Ruby Roo]( is one of New York City’s elite drag bartenders, known for smart conceptual shows and a big, mouthy attitude. I caught up with her to chat about the current plight of the industry, how to recommend drinks to customers, and a Fireball-based cocktail that’s a dead ringer for a peach cobbler. [] [Drag's Not Dead!]( [( [( travel [] [Mexico Is a Gorgeous Land of Opportunity Beckoning You to Call It Home]( Mexico has a long history of welcoming gringos and other newcomers. Surfers looking for a cheap place to park their van, retirees seeking to extend their pension dollars, fugitives, beatniks, artists: They've all been called to Mexico for one reason or another. And most of them end up staying for a while. I heard the call five years ago, and have lived here ever since. I moved to Mexico to study Spanish and teach English after falling in love with the country two years earlier. While I eventually started writing and translating, my story started pretty typically: I came to Mexico with a few suitcases and a one-way ticket, and decided to stay. [] [Let's Go]( [( *Sponsored Ads List [( food & drink [] [Weekend Project: How to Make Chutney]( My introduction to Indian food began in college, though perhaps improperly, thanks to cheap, all-you-can-eat Indian buffets on campus. Though I wasn’t being exposed to anything top-tier, I developed a love for the earthy spices and began to incorporate those flavors in my early days of cooking. I’ve found that chutney, the Indian condiment that’s often seen accompanying naan, is a great thing to use when thickening a curry. But after speaking with Executive Chef Sujan Sarkar of Manhattan’s [BAAR BAAR](, I was surprised to learn of chutney’s many non-traditional uses. And unlike its cousin [achaar](, which requires a more laborious pickling process, chutney can be made quickly and in many different ways—fresh or cooked; sweet, tart, or spicy. So Corona is holding a contest that might just bring the tailgate to you. From now through December 20, anyone of legal drinking age or older within 40 miles of Chicago can enter to win a 70” big screen TV, wireless surround sound system, football helmet chair, personalized sports locker, grill, and other game day gear—all delivered in a shipping container designed to help you through a pop-up tailgating party at home. In other words, by parting with a little personal information (name, address, phone number, and email address) you could score all the tools necessary to create a tailgate right in your own backyard, driveway, or whatever space you’ve got, minus the exhaust fumes. But that's also probably why most things aren't up to us. Considering this year has many of us tightening our purse strings, your holiday shopping budget may be a bit tighter. That doesn't mean you can't still find a great gift that's both thoughtfully unique and affordable, though. To help you out, we've pulled together a dozen exceedingly giftable items under $50 that should make just about anyone on your list happy. So Thrillist partnered with AHA® Sparkling Water to spotlight the brand-new flavors you need on your bar — and how to mix them up right.
