Buckle up, Shelly. Decentralized Science is coming… July 12, 2022 [UNSUBSCRIBE]( | [WEBSITE]( [Altucher Confidential] “During the past few decades, the idealized image of science as a “truth machine” has been crumbling before our feet — a trend which only accelerated, like many things, after March 2020.” [HERO IMAGE] Why “DeSci” is a Paradigm Shift By Chris Campbell Urgent Note From James – Response Requested By 07/12 [Read more here...]( Hey, it’s James. I just made a massive change to my Altucher’s Investment Network newsletter. This is one of the biggest changes to a newsletter in the history of our business… As far as I know, nothing like it has ever been done before. What’s going on? In short, I’m adding 3 brand-new benefits to this all-new “Pro level” of Altucher’s Investment Network. And as one of my readers, I’d hate to see you left behind. That’s why – for a very limited time, until the timer below hits 0 – [you’ll be able to upgrade your current subscription to this new “Pro level” by clicking here.]( [Seriously. The Royal Society was founded in 1660, with the motto Nullius in Verba, or “On No One’s Word.” The promise of science in its earliest days was bold and groundbreaking. Science would be a method for discovering truth without needing to trust anyone: experiments can and would be replicated, incorrect theories and incorrect information would be purified and pushed out. Maybe science was too ambitious. Follow the Science In 1633, decades before the Royal Society was founded, Galileo was brought before the Inquisition for his heretical ideas. His crime was the evidence-based belief that, rather than being fixed, the earth revolves around the sun. This blasphemous view, it turned out, was true. This began science’s rebellion against faith-based authority. Science was going to be — nay, was destined to be! — different. Science was to be wholly devoted to truth, unlike the Church, which was totally devoted to authority. During the past few decades, that idealized image of science has been crumbling before our feet -- a trend which only accelerated, like many things, after March 2020. Science has become what it once hated. For starters, science too often hides behind impenetrable (and, yes, esoteric) walls of jargon that only a chosen few pretend to understand… (Golden rule: If you can’t explain it to a 10 year-old, you don’t actually understand it. The extent to which you cannot explain it simply is also the extent to which it bestows precisely zero benefit to humanity.) Never has the funding been so largesse than in our age of Big Science, even larger than the treasures held at the Vatican… And never have the results been so unimpressive. Meanwhile, as Nate Silver pointed out, tongue only slightly in cheek, there’s only one study in the past 15 years to survive the replication crisis. [IMG 1] Fortunately, there’s a new game in town. Dollar to Be Replaced With Biden “Spyware”? [Click here for more...]( March 9, President Biden quietly signed Executive Order 14067. This Order could pave the way for Democrats holding onto power in 2024. In fact, they could control America indefinitely. A former advisor to the CIA and Pentagon believes this order could allow for legal government surveillance of all US citizens; total control over your bank accounts and purchases; and the ability to silence all dissenting voices for good. To protect your freedom and your wealth, [see his dark warning now.]( The Truth Machine 348 years after the Royal Society uttered their famous phrase — On No One’s Word — a new movement was born, equally as devoted to the truth: blockchain. In his 2018 book, co-author Michael Casey of MIT calls blockchain the “truth machine,” because it relies on a network of decentralized validators, all incentivized toward truth. Previously, said Casey, "we had to rely on centralized institutions to deliver us their truth. We might audit Apple's quarterly results every three months, but with this assumption that their record is truth. And then we built everything on top of that.” By nature of the blockchain’s truth-keeping consensus mechanisms, we no longer need Big Inc. gatekeepers to decide for us what is truth. I don’t believe that we can fully achieve “trustlessness” in social systems (nor do we want to; especially not on a local level), but I do believe that, like violence, the ideal level of trust on a nonlocal level is this: as little as humanly possible. That’s where blockchain can help. “If we get to this point where the record of transactions is universally recognized at any given time to be absolutely accurate,” says Casey, “and we have real-time accurate data, you don't need audits. You don't need quarterly reports. I think this is potentially the most disruptive technology we've encountered in a while." Decentralized Science “Don’t trust, verify,” is its motto, astonishingly similar to the Royal Society’s, but seemingly worlds apart. In the 2020s, an offspring sprouted, a new Royal Society for the world… Decentralized Science, or DeSci. “Imagine a world where patients directly fund researchers developing the next therapeutic breakthrough they need,” Paul Kohlhaas, founder of Molecule, writes. Molecule is a decentralized scientific research funding platform. It’s a way to directly connect researchers seeking out funding and individuals looking to invest in scientific research projects. And it’s an idea whose time has come. Molecule currently has over 250 research projects listed on their marketplace, over 4,500 DAO community members, and 3 “Bio DAOs” with over $10M in funding in their network. According to the Molecule team, “The future of life science research will be driven by open, liquid markets for intellectual property powered by web3 technology.” Molecule isn’t the only trailblazer in DeSci. VitaDAO is focused on longevity research in an “open and democratic manner.” VitaDAO members help to fund early-stage research with the goal of turning the research into biotech startups. VitaDAO currently boasts over 4,000 members, and $9 million in funding raised to support research. SciNet is yet another, enabling retail and institutional investors to invest in scientific research and technology directly. In addition to funding promising scientific research, they also offer a “blockchain-powered” cloud laboratory for researchers, a rigorous decentralized peer review process, and enable researchers to document their IP on the blockchain. In short, “the decentralized science (DeSci) movement aims to harness new technologies such as blockchain and ‘Web3’ to address some important research pain points, silos and bottlenecks.” [Ed. note: Is DeSci profitable? Could you see huge returns in this fledgling idea? The short answer is YES. We’re keeping an eye on some interesting investment opportunities in DeSci.
