[Click here now to RSVP.]( “If you’re anything like me,” James writes, “you probably missed President Biden’s State of the Union address last week.” “There’s only so much time in the day, and I’ve got better things to do than to listen to an old man bark about all the mean things he’s going to do to the big bad Russian bullies.” But, you didn’t need to tune in to know the war in Ukraine is far from the only thing on Biden’s mind: “With a midterm election coming up in November,” says James, “Democrats have just 8 months to right the ship and get inflation under control. This point isn’t lost on Biden, who broached the topic of inflation in his address.” What’s perhaps most interesting (and predictable) is how Biden has approached the subject of inflation: by shifting the blame. “During the pandemic,” said Biden, “these foreign-owned companies raised prices by as much as 1,000% and made record profits.” But, the rub: “It’s not just foreign-owned transportation costs that have been skyrocketing,” says James. “According to an index tracked by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, an index of general domestic long-haul trucking is up 36% since January of 2021.” And the Ukraine situation has only made things worse. Everything Is Up Freight costs are up, yes. But more recently, so are: → Shipping insurance costs → Fertilizer costs → DEF fuel costs → And a WHOLE lot more. Russia exported most of its oil through the Black Sea. Since it’s now a conflict zone, it’s nearly impossible to get shipping insurance. (Ships can’t enter any port without insurance.) [IMG 1] Urgent From James Altucher! [Click here for more...]( it’s James Altucher. I just announced a massive new change to Altucher’s Investment Network, and as one of my readers I wanted to make sure you know what’s going on. [Click here now to see my urgent announcement.]( Meanwhile, for obvious reasons, Russia is halting exports. [IMG 2] As the article from AgWeb points out, “Russia is the second-largest producer of ammonia, urea, and potash and the fifth largest producer of processed phosphates. Russia accounts for 23% ammonia, 14% urea, 21% potash, and 10% processed phosphate exports.” Urea is used in DEF fuel -- Diesel Exhaust Fluid. DEF is used in the exhaust stream of Diesel-powered vehicles. It helps break down nitrogen oxide emissions into nitrogen and water. Without DEF, you can’t run your diesel vehicle. Not only are diesel prices skyrocketing, but so is DEF fuel. And that’s just scratching the surface. Meanwhile, Biden just announced a ban on Russian energy imports, acknowledging that the move would drive up US energy and gas prices for Americans, saying, “Defending freedom is going to cost.” So long as inflation continues to remain a concern, it seems the current administration will continue to look for a fall guy. Russia is already an easy bugaboo. But it won’t be the only one. It looks like the shipping industry is another. Shipping Shake-Up Regardless of what happens, says James, “it seems that investors should expect to see a shake-up in the shipping industry later this year.” Expect to see new policies and legal action against the shipping industry in the coming months as the White House desperately tries to reel in inflation and shift the blame elsewhere. “For investors,” James writes, “this will create a host of new investment opportunities as global shipping reshapes itself to meet the needs of the modern supply chain. I’m currently researching a few investment opportunities in the space, and will provide an update when I’ve identified an opportunity to pursue.” As usual, there will be big winners and big losers. And our team is working full-time to find the former. However, these specific opportunities will be exclusive to Altucher’s Investment Network subscribers.
